Walleye fishing continues to be good; however, the fish can be extremely particular when it comes to the size and type of minnow. Late afternoon into night are the most productive hours, especially just before dark. Look for fish in 5-30 feet of water (or deeper), and in assorted locations ; weeds and weed edges, drop-offs, break lines, bars, humps, and hard bottom areas. Walleye suckers, northern suckers, shiners, and fatheads on jigs or under tip-ups, and jigging spoons and Rapalas are all producing walleye catches.

There has not been much fishing activity going on. The snowmelt and rain muddied up tributaries, and most harbor ice is in rough shape.

On lake Mendota the pike are biting using tip-ups. Pretty much atv travel. The ice is iffy. Even saw ducks swimming around. So be careful.

Lynxville boat ramp has become locked in ice limiting access to tail water fishing. Ice is 8 inches or more in most places but anglers should still use caution in crossing areas with potential current.

Great day!! Fished St. Croix Flowage Sat 1-23, from 9:30am-2pm. We set up in 7ft out in front of Tuveson's where you pay $1 per vehicle ($2 for more people). This appears to be the only access for vehicles and it showed as there was alot of people (and vehicles) present. The sunnies and gills were nonstop the whole time we were there.

Ice conditions on the Winnebago chain are decent for walking or four wheeler travel only. Many areas with current have opened up comsiderably, where other areas have 8-12" of ice. Fishing on Winnebago chain has been pretty tough this winter with a large population of gizzard shad present, but slowly dying! Some jumbos and the occasional walleye and keeper white bass being caught. Many 6-8" white bass are the primary biters. Best action is either in the mud using a run and style or finding transitions from rock to sand. Jigging seems to be the best method in 9-17 FOW.

On to an other report. I fished a small area lake today. Caught a lot of small to decent gills, and one crappie. All in 15-20 fow on spikes and small marmooska jigs. Also had 4 or 5 flags on the tip up.
