As the Nils becomes more popular in the Midwest, one will start to see more options. As always, one can find them in the Outdoor Pro Store right here on Fishing MInnesota.

You may believe the grass is greener on the other side. If you take the time to water yours, it would be just as green.

Do you happen to know if the Outdoor pro store has a physical location near the Twin Cities? I'd like to avoid the shipping costs...

No physical location with augers left where you can walk into and purchase. I do believe that the only power auger from NIls that is still available top purchase is the standard 8". I believe the 4.5 & 6 inch is sold out.

That isn't true. I saw some Nils augers in a store the other day. It was the first Nils auger I have ever seen in a store. Nice looking machine.

Since the poster asked where he could buy one, and you seem to have seen one the other day, why did you not mention the store where you saw it?

I didn't mention it because they are sold in the Outdoor Pro Store through this site and I am sure I would have been issued a citation by the forum police.

I can certainly tell you where I saw it if there are no other available options.......

I believe forum policy only states that you can't link to other stores and sites. Well, it might say more than that, it might include language about selling items yourself, etc.

I don't think it prevents people from saying "I went to Mills Fleet Farm and bought item XYZ, it is sweet". Or "you can buy some sweet catfishing equipment over at Bob Moore's in south Minneapolis", even though Mills and Moore's aren't sponsors.

We got ours from the Outdoor Pro Store and got all kinds of great questions answered. Couldn't have asked for a nicer sale. I first spent time at the St Paul Ice show looking at them, then spent more time getting feedback from current owners. Then went online here and did the buy. Rick answered all kinds of questions and I also talked with the guys when it was delivered on a couple more questions. What a great purchase, next year another is going to be mine. The first was a purchase for a friend. Thank goodness we fish together so I get to use it often!!! They truly do cut like a dream!!!!!

Watch very, very close.... Because I'm as fast as the speed of dark.

I was not aware at this time that there was a store in Minnesota that sold Nils augers with powerheads. I know that Cabelas has the hand augers.

Marine General in Duluth I believe carries them as well.

Good Luck!

jdndey what you need to do is go to one of the Get Togethers (Located on the main forums) and try a Nils out first hand on the ice. I am sure there will be other augers out to compare weight and speed. There is usually a pro staff from the forum who has a Nils that would let you take it for a test ride. If you plan on making it to the Burntside Bash or Slabfest you can make some swiss cheese with mine. I will be right behind trying to pull up a laker or a nice slab

Thanks for the offer Jim -

I have the 6 inch hand auger which I purchased from Marine General at the show this year. I love the thing and have no need to test out the power auger before buying. The thing is lighter than most, lasts longer and cuts faster....seems to be a no brainer....just would like to avoid some of the shipping charges since I am already gonna pay a premium price for a premium auger.

As for the Burntside Bash - I have never fished Lake Trout seriously but would love to hook into one of those beauties. I am trying to convince some friends to head up to Ely to find some of them yet this year.

Good luck at the Bash

jdndey you will more the make up your shipping cost when you sell your hand auger cause you will have 2 augers both a hand and a gas unless you like the 6 " for panfish. If it is a Nils you can just change the lower unit and have both a 6" and a 8 ". I have not tried the hand part on my Nils but as light as it is I might not. I can handle 22# but not 75 or what ever my old Jiffy model 30 weighed.

I tried Dtro's nils at the get together on sunday and was impressed with the design and weight. It definately will be on my list for next season.

You think that 8" auger is fast. Try it with the 6" auger and you'll be even more amazed. \:D

A bad day of fishing? I honestly don't know what you're talking about.

You are going to love auger but remember that the auger cuts great without any downward pressure and when you get close to the bottom lift ever so slightly so it cuts the last little bit. Break in your motor with a couple of tanks of mixed with a good oil. I went the Amsoil route but I am sure any good 2 cycle oil will work just make it a little more oil for the first couple of tanks. For the break in you can leave off the lower unit and just let it run in the garage or out on the deck.

You're gonna love the Nils. Like Jim said you'll need to run a couple of tank of gas/oil through it before it's broke in. Then it just gets better the more you use it.

Jdndey, PLEASE follow everyone's directions as to running a couple tanks of gas through it before you use it!!!!!! It really does matter. And be very careful, the first instinct when you see the blade is to touch it, or set it on someting... IT IS VERY VERY SHARP!!!
