I'm still picking up a few eater walleye on Pokeg in the evenings - nothing spectacular (2-4 each night) in 19 FOW. Jigging spoons and deadsticks, there really doesn't seem to be a preference.

14 inches of ice and it sure was sloppy out there last night with all of the rain.

Fished tonight 415-630. 34fow caught two kept one. Marked many bigger fish that would come screaming in and bump my jiggin rap but wouldn't eat it. Found three smelt in the stomach of the one I kept. maybe this explains some things.

Spent this past Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday fishing Pokegama. Fished everywhere that made sense to me as far as structure and depth. 12-37 feet. Shiners, fatheads and plastics were used on various jigs. Conditions were great Thursday and Friday. Saturday and Sunday were brutal. Whole trip yielded two perch...not worth keeping. Help.

I was on Pokeg last Friday from 3:00 - 6:00 in about 28 ft. at a dropoff hoping for walleye. Nothing but a few small perch.
Saturday went to Trout lake in Coleraine and braved the wind. Fished all afternoon until 5:30. Lots of small perch in shallow water and then moved to 30ft at a drop-off by mid-afternoon. I had a good view with the camera, but zero walleye passed by. Saw one northern, couple smallmouth and a some small perch. Only a few of the perch bit.
Maybe next time.

Fished Pokie last Fri. Evening/ overnight. Caught a nice 19" in 14' at 5:45pm fri night on plain hook and fat head? Not another bite or thru Sat a.m. Tried some perch fishing elsewhere out of wheelhouse with plans of doing some outside hole hoping Sat. But winds changed that. Limited perch success only keeping 3. Missed 3 to 4 nice perch sight fishing. Sat eve. on Pokie yielded worse results. Only marked a couple fish early, then nothing overnight. Tried shiners/ fat heads Sat. evening. Worst fishing I have encountered all winter. Things will turn around.

How late do you think there will be fishable ice this spring? I'll be up in a couple of weeks, can't imagine it's gonna melt by then!

I'd be more worried you won't be able to get out because of the snow depth in 2 weeks time!

This winter is getting old...

Actual thaw is when the temps stay above freezing for 24 hours or more. That is not on the 15 day forecast. We will be ice fishing in June at this rate!

It is getting old. 10 below this morning. Sun has power now though. I have no more room in my drive or yard to store snow, so it has to be done snowing.

Fished some crappies for the first time in about 3 weeks on a small local lake. Wow the snow out there!! Made it really difficult to move around and follow them but still managed to drill 50 holes it seemed like. 30' was the magic depth with fish suspended about 8-12' off the bottom very finicky bite but the 8 that I could provoke were all about 10". Nice fish, beautiful weather and cold beer!! Great day

The weather up here in the northland was cool and rainy but the fish just do not seem to mind.

I have been hitting Sand Lake and it was decent with most fish coming in at 10-13 ft of water with a Jig and minnow. I was on the humps and bars on sand and never really tried the shoreline I would guess there was fish there too.

good luck fishing

Have been fishing Bowstring with decent luck out on the humps and main break. I have been using 1/4 oz jigs and a shiner or a lindy rig with a leech.

Sand lake has been good with the fish coming in at 10-13 ft of water with a jig and minnow. It has been good fishing up here with the lakes all biting most of the time

good luck fishing

Bowstring has some deep fish and some weed fish going using same techniques as outlined in my Winnie report.

Round Lake on center bar has produce walleyes with a Jig and crawler along with spinners.

Sand Lake has been slow during the day, but some good crappie action in the evenings. Small mouth bass have been tough on area lakes, but large mouth bass has been very good. Be safe and have fun!

Hey Jason. Seems like you fish the area a lot. I am coming up on Wednesday with my girlfriends family. I have never been to the area so I was curious if you ever fish bass lake in cohasset. Not looking for any secret spots but I would love to get some fish in the boat for everybody. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And that goes for anybody that has fished the lake. Thanks in advance.

Well Im gonna miss her, when I get home. Right now Im on this lake shore and Im sittin in the sun. Im sure itll hit me, when I walk through that door tonight. Yea, Im gonna miss her. Ah looky there...

Grand rapids-Deer River Mn. Area Fishing report

With the last 30 days or so of hot weather has kept the water temps in the mid 70ís or higher. So donít be looking for fish in to much of there normal fall patterns. Walleyes action on Bowstring the past week has mainly been on mid lake structure, pulling rigs tip with a crawler has work well; crappie action has been good at times. Sand Lake, look in 20+ foot range for walleyes or pull spinners in the weeds 9 to 10 ft. Some crappies are showing up as well. Big Winnie has been hot and cold, just depending on the day your there, some fish were being taken on mid lake humps as well, east side held some fish in 12 to 14 ft range, as long as you had a good south wind, perch have ran small, some crappies showing up in cut-foot, but nothing like it should be for this time of year. Leech lake walleyes also have been slow over all, crappies action in 8 to 12 ft has been fairly good, pike action been the best bite with some in upper 30 inch range. Ball Lake pike action has as hot as the weather lately.

Be safe and enjoy a great day on the water, This is area full time fishing guide Charlie Worrath www.mnfishingpros.com

Fished split hand lake New Year's Eve. Gotta love the new otter Thermal shelters. Frigid temps but we were still able to fish comfortably and ice some nice jumbos. Went off from the landing in 20' and marked a lot of fish but only got a few good fish. Given the weather it was a fairly nice outing. We were targeting crappies but needed up getting perch which was ok.
