Wait tell I tell Jake tomorrow morning. He fished his but off this weekend and got humble pie. Nice job. Tell me about it. I was setup only a few hundred yards from mabr and his sons for two days and did let a 19" & 20" eye and one 32" pike go but didn't catch one Crappy! They had a great outing!

Nice fish mabr. Leech you should have gone to Burntside. I had a great time on Red and will be making a trip to B/S in Feb some time now that you all found the thin ice spots for me up there!

I keep looking at mabr's great catch and it is sinking in that the bar has been raised for good catches of crappies this winter. What can any of us do to impress anyone compared to what mabr's group did? I feel that we are still 3 or 4 weeks away from the start of " crappie time" when they start schooling up and putting the feed bag on. I tip my hat to mabr. He did what so many of us have been trying to do. Get into a bunch of crappies. Also it shouldn't be that hard for someone to figure out where mabr was fishing. There can not be many houses on the lake covered with whiteout.

Ok I had a miss understanding from the outfitter we rented from, I can use his name after all. Sorry about that Ryan
Ryan @ Up North Outfitters (upnorthoutfit Just add the .com to that and your there) is who put us on all these great fish. He made sure we were on a SPOT on a Spot and it paid off big time as the pictures show. As for service, he checked in with us several times every day and made sure we didnt need for anything. The guy has one of the calmest demeanors of anyone ive ever meet. Just a great guy. Maybe if your lucky he will put you in the magic spot. I highly recommend him.
Again thanks Ryan It was a blast and I hope the bite continues for you and your clients

It looks like he is going to have to add another pic to his web site of big slabs now! Ryan was a great guy and he stoped by and checked on us a few times a day and stayed and talked a bit to offered ideas and said he would move the house any time that we wanted with all our stuff left in it. I should have took him up on it and had him move me closer to the White one!!

Good catch Mabr! I didn't get out last year in March when I usually go up and find some of these finest slabs on Red.
2008 and 2010 were good years with 3 or 4 days out there. Numberwise it was pretty good for what it is now compared to the Boom although I never fished there until March of 2003 so it was a couple years after the craze but still great fishing. I usually keep a couple, CPR the rest. To me they are Legends of URL. That's just me! Good luck everyone and keep reports coming.

Stayed in one of Jonny P's 2 man houses Tuesday night and had some decent fishing. Got there Tuesday afternoon and the 2 of us caught 3 walleyes and about 11 perch. One small walleye through the night. Then Wednesday morning from 7:30-9:30 we caught about 10 walleyes, a couple perch and a 14" crappie. We also got bit off by a Pike Tuesday afternoon. We had a great time and hopefully will be back later!

So with those pictures i guess the bite is starting to pick back up. I am planning on heading up next weekend. I have fished rogers this year and did well. Is that area on the lake still doing well or is the north end showing more fish.

Every day on every road someone is doing very, very good and someone else is doing very, very bad. Fishing reports are yesterdays news and give no clue as to what is going to happen tomorrow. That is just part of fishing.

What Kelly just stated is one of the biggest truths you will read on here. We don't like it but its like a trail cam, just shows you what you missed when you were not in your stand.

When my fishermen blame the weather I always say you can not blame the weather as somone out on red lake is hammering them. I need to learn to keep my mouth shut and listen to the customer

We went out in portables on Sat on Westwinds road and WAY out there, we were some of the furthest folks out. Got out at 11am, left around 4pm. Just about every 2 man portable kept around 4-6 wallys and maybe a couple of perch. Big moment for my house came around 4pm or so. I picked up a 23 1/2, buddy then picked up the 25 1/2 in the pic. Then it was non-stop crazy for the next 45min. Vex's were all lit up, doubles, triples you name it. Probably my best 45 min fishing ever.

Bigbartguy-Awesome report! Nice fish. I'm telling you this lake is going to be knocking out some bruisers in the next couple years. I had a pretty good weekend. I only fished late in the day both days. I was set up by 2 and enjoyed the afternoon. Sunday was weird though as I caught eleven fish that mirrored each other, all were 16 inches. And all within about an hour and a half. Most of this winter it has been really mixed as far as size to the fish.

20" plus everywhere we checked. In some places more I would bring one or just move over.

Fished url on sat from 600Am to 730pm. I started out on a 10m foot hump in the middle of a 13' flat, with no roads or houses for a mile. Man I thought I was samrt. Fished that spot till one hour after sunup. wound up with one wally and two perch, marked fish ,b but couldnt get them to bite. The I went out on west wind raod, about six miles out to the end of the road. Fished in the 15' mud. Action was spotty, just enough to keep you interested. Caught fifteen wallys and a couple perch by 2:30. Then I should have moved but I figuered it would pick up at sunset....it never did. Also what kills me is that I was so cocky that sunset would be great, that I let three wallys over 14" and under 17" go, figuring id have no problem with a limit. My lessons learned were to keep moving and dont count your eggs before they are hatched.

Me too. Worst weekend of the winter so far. I was fairly mobile all weekend. I usually fish in early and late. During the middle of the day I move out to 13 feet and beyond. Nothing much worked though this weekend. I rarely will even fish in a portable because Im so keen on being quiet. Even today I hunkered down next to the truck and braved the elements and I ended up getting skunked. Did pick up some nice perch Friday and Sat. Managed a limit on Friday but it was downhill after that. Also the old adage that ice is never really safe rang true this evening. I was leaving the lake on the reservation and I broke through a crack. I noticed this morning when I was coming on the lake that there was a crack and I could see that there was water in it. Well when I was leaving my truck bottomed out on the drivers side while I was crossing this crack. I goosed the peddle and made it out easy enough. I stopped the truck and walked back to see a 4 by 12 foot ice berg floating where my drivers side just passed over. Be careful, pay mind to everything out there.

Was up Friday thru Sunday with my brother, fishing was pretty slow, ten walleyes total, three in the bucket, five slot fish, and a couple small ones. Did have a brieeeeef flurry Sat night where we caught three slot fish from 11 to midnight on one rattle reel with a glow white hook, took the first 18 incher off, put it down, and caught another one 17+. Within the half hour caught a 26 incher on the same rattle reel!!! Nice fish!!! When it swam under the hole the first time I just about droppped my teeth!! Long slow drive up on Friday in the snow!!! Wind on Sat didn't help our program, hard to get outside and fish. Overall had fun, lots of laughs, better luck next time.
