Hearing a lot of disturbing rumors about fish kill on North Center and Chisago. Anybody have some factual news about these two lakes?

haven't heard of much, but you can rest assured that there will be a lot of dead fish in widespread areas after a winter like this one.

I have still seen a lot of people out ice fishing on Chisago. This would lead me to believe that it did not kill? As dead fish often dont bite very good. Though maybe they didnt catch anything?

I too have heard the rumors about N.Center. Its a fairly shallow lake with really only 2 deeper holes. It would be very sad to hear if we lost a lot of fish.

Set the hook once for me.

Trust me when I say, take a tin of waxes out on Chisago and jig. You won't be dissapointed.

My buddy and I both limited out on gills on Chisago on Saturday. A day later on the radio, I heard a prominent TC guide state that Chisago was "gone". Hey buddy, go out to 20' and fish 10' down. You cant keep them off.

I hear you,the carp are good to see croak. Its the gamefish that are the sad part to see gone.Used to fish N.Center alot as a kid and havnt been there in quite a few years but allways got some nice panfish this time of the season.

Might be a good thing if all those carp die out. They usually aren't good for lakes. Lots of small panfish dieing on N Center could be good too. There are too many dink sunfish in there anyway. Some of the bigger ones will survive which will help with stunted growth of the panfish.

However, Having talked to a DNR fisheries person. Bass are "Least tolerant" to low O2 levels. A die off of this magnitude could take 10 years to recover from.

There will always be survivors, and with the vast creek system between all the lakes, I would bet the lake will recover fairly quick. I think a purge of this magnitude will help more than you would think.

by the way, where is that hole at? It would be neat to see it first hand. Was it man made, or is it a carp swirl?

Ya know? That's pretty much what I was thinking. I am guessing that N Center isn't the only one in this state. Those lakes get pounded leaving the dinks and the rough fish.

I too can appreciate getting rid of the rough fish, but I can't believe that this will be a good thing for the lake at all..

Sounds like the DRN will net it in the spring to see the extent of the kill off.

Any idea which news paper it was?
