It's almost that time again. Welcome all you pout virgins, your gonna have a blast. My advice to you leave the children at home. There is a couple things they might enjoy, but for the most part. It really is a spring break party on ice. Beer, babes, and sausage. The girls are usually out numbered, but isn't that how it always is......My first year we stayed next the main party street and haven't stay by them since. To each there own but when I wanna sleep I don't want to hear all the noise. So for the past 7 years I have parked my 35' camper about 200 yards north of the chase and 50 yards off shore. And love it. See ya there!!!!

When a guy gets there where is the best place to head to get a spot for the wheelhouses. Got 2a houses coming and want to park together. Hopefully the ice starts building. Its going to be fun.

There should be roads out on the lake. Depending on if whats more important, fishing or partying. you will find a spot its a big lake smile

If you want to fish I would try the north end of walker bay for fishing. If you are coming up for the party you should park closer to the "TOWN"

Hope this helps!

I'm bringing a friend's camper to stay on the ice. It is ~27 ft. I remember seeing folks with similar campers the last time I attended... How much ice do they recommend for that kind of a setup?
I'd much rather sleep someplace where we will be fishing. As long as there isn't too much snow, I should be able to take the camper out across the lake to a hump, correct?

I dont know what to tell you about ice needed for your camper but we are making ice like crazy right now. Spots that had a foot 3-4 days ago now have 15+. almost no snow on the lake and its making ice fast. No ridges to deal with, accesses are in good shape also.

Anyone know of anywhere that is still open to stay. Or anywhere that is renting fish houses for this weekend yet? called walker fish house rental and they are all booked up. Im sure they have been for some time now too.

A bad day in the stabbin cabin is better than a good day of work.

I take 1 33' camper out there that weighs about 6000, so about the weight of another truck. With the ice we will have by then you'll be fine. I would plan to use the marina access depending on which way your heading. Not as busy.

As far as places to stay, the chase has openings all the time from people that cancel. But they get snatched up pretty fast, and they are $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Cause they can. Good luck

If you haven't been before, You might want to rent an outhouse from Port-able John. Last year it was $70 for Thurs thru Sunday. Best spent money! I have a john in my house, but none of my friends do. The first day they all came to my house...my wife didn't like that at all. Now we have the Portable John and everyone is happy!
We drive on by the marina and set up north of the "town" also. Close enough to walk, but far enough away to catch fish.

Does anyone here use giant 7/0 or 8/0 hooks for eelpout? The guy on this video looks to be using a hook about that size with a chunk of bait the size of a charcoal briquet.

http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=anglereducation.burbot

Keeps the little ones off the hook, I guess.

Wondering if there is an ice road from Pine Point to the festival (Walker Bay)? We will be staying out at Pine Point and it would be nice to travel and fish along the way.

I wouldn't go from Pine Point to Walker Bay by vehicle the narrows has iffy ice at best I have seen people do it but I wouldn't recommend it Last year we were on the north part of the bay across the Ice heave and watched a guy drop his GF Jeep into the heave and watched the removal. You could take snowmobile or atv more than likely through the narrows but be cautious Its a long drive on the road but It is about 12+ miles by ice too.
