I am a college student at Southwest State University and I did some ice fishing last year on some area lakes! I could use some tips and am willing to give tips on some hot lakes in the area!

Avid Angler,
I my hometown was Slayton and now I am up North. I do have a ton of tips for you. I will be home for Christmas break, and I am bringing my gear with. If you want to hook up let me know. I know Shetek, Sarah, Yankton, Talcot, and Lake Benton very well. I have fished Cottonwood lake twice, but didn't have great luck. Let me know what's up.

Hey guys!
I will definitely keep you guys posted when the ice is good and when I get out there! The way it sounds, it will be awhile. Hi's in the 40's don't sound to good for making ice. Man am I bummed! I wanna get out there and fish like crazy! I love the taste of fish deep fried, so I can't wait to get a meal.

Hey Zimm!
Are you a college student to or just living up there? Just curious! Anyways, that would be great if we could hit the ice and catch some slabs. I am up for that! I haven't fished any of the lakes you mentioned, but definitely would like to try. I have been on Island, East Goose, Wood Lake, Dead Coon, Clear, Brandt, and the back waters of Shetex! I wanna find some nice panfish and walleyes or basically anything that swims underneath the ice! So keep me posted! Later!

Avid Angler,
I have been out of college for 7 years, but still like to have some coldones when I fish. I teach school in Long Prairie, but still like to get home to pheasant hunt, and fall fish when I get the chance. I will be home arond Dec. 22-26. I am going to fish hard and try a couple hot spots that have produced walleyes in the past. We can set up a meeting place and you are more than welcome to come along. I will have one other guy in my house with me, but you can set up on the same spots that we do. One great thing about SW. MN. is you don't have to worry about crowds of people and the fishing is usually good. I am looking forward to some new tips. Stay in touch and we will set the hook.

Skinnylee,
Early ice has been great around Loon Island, Sweetmans Bay and Pleasant View Drive. On Sarah it has been the sunken rock piles on the north end and straight out from the county park on the southwest end. Let me know if you give them a try. Have you seen many pheasants? I would like to come home for the last weekend of the season and see what happens.

Rick,
I agree that it would be great for a SW fishing line. There are a great number of lakes that people fish and there are college students in the area. This might give them a little fishing help for the years they will be there. I know that Tony Dean fishes the area in the fall every year. The hunting reports will also be helpful for guys like myself who take in both sports during the season.
Thanks,
Zimm

Avid Angler,
Hope you are more successful fishing with Zimm than most of us are around here. He tends to have bad luck catching fish. I think we all learned a lot about ourselves yesterday though didn't we Zimm. Zimm and myself and two other guys hunted squirrels on the LP golf course. You will probably see a picture on the front page of outdoor news. Neck is sore from looking up in the trees all day. I wouldn't mind the reports also from down SW corner for hunting since I make a trip with Zimm once a year to pheasant hunt. Think Ice, Kooba

Hey you guys thanks for all the replies! It is nice to talk to someone who has a clue of how to fish around here. I am bummed that the weather has been so darn warm. It doesn't look good for ice down here right now. Thanks Zimm for some insight of where to go on Shetex and Sarah. I haven't fished them yet and I need some clues!

Thanks a lot Rick,
I think this will be a great forum. I am sure it will be just as successful as the others. I will keep you guys posted about early fishing spots. My Dad is really itching to get out, and he can't keep his mouth shut when he gets on them.

Skinnylee,
That is my pops. He has a new fishouse this year, and can't wait for the ice. I was lucky to have a great dad to take us fishing when I was young. Sometimes the 18 hours straight may have been a little much, but I learned a ton of information, and find myself going back to a few old tricks when tournament fishing. Now it is my time to take him fishing. You will probably know of the hotspots before I do.
No Ice in LP.

Zimm., your dad also plays a mean game of catch phrase.HAHAHA. Great guy, hope you can catch fish half a well as he can. We should start a morrison/todd county forum. Wouldn't that be great. Lots of great lakes in the area. Think ice.

I hope to have all the 'eyes caught out of Loon by the time you get home. This is a wonderful forum. I am also originally from Slayton, currently live in Cheyenne Wy. I will be home form the 19th-23rd. Hope some ice forms! Went out here yesterday and caught some nice jumbo perch through 5-6 inches of ice. No 'eyes though! Zimm, where's your Dad putting his new house? I'll have to show my son what a "real" ice house looks like. Scott

WMF,
You should be in for a great trip and you will be able to tell us the hotspots by the time I get home. My dad fishes the rocks on Sarah first and then moves to Shetek. I don't think you will have any problems finding houses on any of the lakes down there for your son to look at. I hope there is good ice by the time you get there. Save us a few. Keep us posted.

Hey guys! How is everything going?

Well, I went out to check the ice on some area lakes and I was surprised. There was about three inches out there. So a guy can go do some fishing. I have to much **** to do this week, but I hope to get some fishing done this Saturday. There was some holes drilled out there to. Someone else is just as curious as me. I notice that there is probably some uneven ice though to. So I am sure in spots there is less. So be careful if you are venturing out. If you here of someone falling in over the weekend by Lynd, it is probably me. Well, let me know how the fish are biting everybody when you guys get out, I will do the same. See ya later!

Hey fellas!

How is everything going out there! I hope you guys are out fishing, but it is tough to say. I still plan on going out Saturday, so I hope the ice can hold me. Any of you guys been out yet around here. The word in Marshall is that the walleyes are biting on Lac Le Parle, I can't spell it, but it is great for goose hunting. It's that game refuge. I think you guys know what I am talking about. Anyways, I heard from one of my buddies that some nice walleyes have been taken out recently. A couple of 24'' and a 26''. So some nice fish. Anyways, just thought I would let you know! Well, good luck fishing guys!
