Lost key to gun safe! What to do?

This key was my spare for the gun safe and I had my spare key for my truck with it as I always have these in my pocket at all times. Well can't locate the key any where. Even looked in the fridge!
This is a Stack-On 6 gun safe with the round tooth key. Is it possible to drill out the lock thru the key hole? I'll be leaving for cabin in three days.

Drill them out, they are very soft metal, I had one twist off in there. You can order new locks for them.

Check with the safe manufacturer for replacement lock cores before drilling it out.

Is it like the vending machine-style key? (I think that's what you meant, but you know what they say about assumptions.)

There was a bit of a kerfuffle early this summer or last summer about some well-regarded bike locks with that style of key. I guess they could be opened by using a plain-jane Bic pen tube (the softer, opaque ones, not the hard, clear ones) instead of a key. It's worth a try. And if it works, you might want to think about replacing your lock anyway. grin

So you lost the spare, or you lost both keys (I assume this, but confused)?

Also, is this a gun "cabinet" or a "safe"? Just looking at StackOn's site and didn't see any of the true "safes" with a key lock. I'm only wondering because I'm guessing its a lot easier to pop a "cabinet" vs a safe.

Bic pen. Do a youtube search of bic pen and lock.
You should find it.

The key is like a vending machine key!
I lost the first key 5 years ago! No the spare is gone.
This is Classified as a gun safe.

If its the round type and the bic doesn't work, I would guess a locksmith could get it open pretty easily without needing to drill out the entire lock.

TooTallTom,
any other details about the Bic pen as to how this works?
Sounds better than drilling it out.
Does the pen work alone or does it need something that halpes turn the key in the upper portion of the key hole?

Like ferny said, you should be able to find a tutorial video on YouTube. And there's no guarantee that it'll work. I think they fixed the bike locks...

Drilling mine out took about 5 minutes, I was surprised how easy it was. they are not meant for anything other than safety and theft deterrant. Mine is a homak with two locks, I had to drill out the bottom one, but the top still works good.

I have a Stack-On safe as well, one of the plain dark green ones. I bought it at Gander Mountain. If it's the same one:

On the back of the cabinet is a key code, 1 letter on a white sticker. Now, mine in bolted to the wall from the inside and you can't see the key code, but if you some how can make a little hole in the wall and use a mirror that key code should be right on the top. POSSIBLY you could just buy a new key, I doubt there are that many different combinations on the keys.

Something to try.

I know Stack-On will send a replacement key if you are able to get them the serial number. Since time is of the essence, call a locksmith. They should be able to get it open with no problem and you don't risk any damage. I've seen the bic trick work on a freezer before?

One of many videos on YouTube for using the pen trick on this style of lock.

I guess it's kind of too bad the pen didn't work, but at least you have access to your guns! (And you know someone can't get into the safe with a pen. grin )
