Dead, is a better bass and panfish lake, lots of hammer handles as well. Good for spring crappie though. If you want walleye, Ottertail or Walker are much better lakes.

Yea, Dead is a fun lake, but trying for walleyes will just [PoorWordUsage] you off with the 20+ hammer handles and bass that take your shiner/shad rap that was intended for walleyes... I catch a walleye about once a month on that lake.

and if your from cedar falls and wearing a UNI shirt/hat, you're boat might get dented..that lake is a NDSU BISON LAKE!! haha.

No lake in Minnesota is a NDSU lake except maybe traverse which is technically SD bison.

Now, now boys. You division II schools are welcome to the shallow west end, but we all know that the rest of the lake is Tubby Territory.

I have slayed the eyes in Dead on the shallow west end. Right in the cabbage.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in the boat and drink beer all day!

ahh DIVISION 1 thank you. NDSU & UNI have done more in the big dance in the past 5 years than the gophs. NDSU beat Gophs in football and will again this year mav!

back to dead lake. walleyes, far west bay or far North bay. but its an adventure to find them.

hey orange. i caught 10-12 crappies today too, but unlike iowan's i only keep a crappie in the 10-12 inch range.....ouch burn!

p.s--- iowa refuses to play NDSU in football, cuz NDSU beat Minnesota and Kansas in last 2 years.

p.s.s good luck, and have fun... haha.

Fished Dead all last week along with Ottertail. The Walleye bite was slow, managed about 30 walleye between me and my brother. Some nice size fish 2 over 25 inches. Caught some nice northerns 2 large ones, one 30 and one 32 inches. Only 5 crappie for the week and some nice 2 to 4 lb bass. Not bad if you factor in the weather and leave out Tuesdays all together because of the wind. Hard to keep on fish with the wind last week and the directional changes almost every day. And they will all be there later as we release all our fish.
Good thing was I was fishing, the new boat ran great and over all a good week.

I fished both sides last week, but I honestly don't know where to go on dead until the fall. All I could find was flat structure and tried on the east side by one of the islands where it gets to about 30 feet going through the middle of it. I didn't want to venture to much because I heard you should know the lake. I need to get a lakemap because I couldn't find hardly any structure but I probably needed to move more. I would really like to get to know the lake and where they move to.
