How is the flood situation in Wabasha now? Can a guy launch his boat in the park now?

I was through wabasha today but forgot to check the ramp. If the weather shapes up, I will be down on Friday and will report.

Sounds crazy, but I drove down there after work tonight to see it for myself for a mini road trip. WOW. Not only is the park closed with a barricade, I have never seen it so flooded! The fields all around the backwaters are also flooded. I think it will be at least a week and a half before it comes down to a reasonable level. The road to Wilcox is under water also. No way I am taking my boat down there this weekend.

Even in Lake City the ramp is half under water and it looked like a bog had moved next to the ramp. The current looked really strong out there. I would caution anyone to be careful heading out on Pepin in the next week or so. Not worth it to me. Red Wing and Coleville looked really flooded as well as I was coming back.

I burned some gas going down there but it saved me some headache and embarrassment from trying to go down there this weekend. Yikes. It has been a long winter and I just need to wait a couple more weeks.

Evidently the st. jude tourney is going to go on as scheduled april 30-may 1. I can't say this is the safest decision. Let's hope the channel markers aren't submerged! Where are people going to launch and park?

I didn't see any docks going in but I do know that they were cleaning up the Hoksila ramp this afternoon with a skid steer.

West Newton is open on Pool 5 as well as the Finger Lakes.
Peterson Lake access was gated off last week and I have not been down there this week.

What's it looking like in Wabasha? River is forecasted to go back up to 12.5 feet by the weekend.

The Wabasha Ike's launch is still closed. It looks close but it will be at least few more days. In fact, if it wasn't barracaded I would use it.
The closest landing that I know of is Pepin WI. That landing has been open for a couple weeks.
I have not checked the Peterson Lake access for a week or so.
Be carefull I know the green can by Reeds Landing is submerged.

Wow! St Jude's tourney is planning on using Ike's Park launch. River is supposed to be higher this weekend than it is now. With submerged channel markers, is it really safe to have a bass tourney out there?

A little danger will makes things more fun for the guys in the tournament.

I wasn't there, but I was told they had to use the marina launch. Public ramps were still flooded.

yes that is correct, but the marina landing is also owned by the city and you can use it.

I'm looking for directions to get to the Alma launch, is there anyone who can help with that? If not, what other public launches are around the wabasha area if their launch is still closed.

there are several landings in the wabasha area open...

Bernsas landing, on peterson lake, Highway 63 N of kellogg 1 mile take right over rail road tracks, left on county Rd 30, then right on Cnty RD 24 about 4 miles after several corners the landing will be on your right, you will be able to see the river clearly right before you get to it.

Wilcox landing, Highway 63 N of kellogg 1 mile take right over rail road tracks, left on county Rd 30, go about 3 miles then take right on 24 (this will be the second right you can take on 24, the road is a horse shoe and goes out to the river and back to the highway). the you will drive about 1 mile and there will be boat landing sign and a gravel dead end to your left, about a 1/4 mile long, at the end is the landing.

the upper marina in wabasha, the large public landing is closed but the landing in the marina is open.

nelson dike road landings. you can use these landing to get out to the main channel or to fish the back waters of indian slough.

Alma landing, south side of town almost directly across from the large bait shop right on highway 35.

P.S. fish all day yesterday 5/3 targeting walleyes, we did not do well we caught a variety of fish and eventually did get into a good small mouth bite near the upper marina.
GOOD LUCK!!

with two people or rubber boots you would be fine and there is parking on dry ground available. that was over a week ago. and i am guessing the water has come back down again since then.

City ramp is still closed and will be until the water receeds to about 10 feet but the marina ramp is open but bring hip boots as it is tough to launch without them!

Thanks. I went down there yesterday, ended up just using the park launch. Had to wade in shin deep water, but very doable.
