Chris63, I use an AGM with 200 amp hours.(It weighs about 100 lbs) It will run my set up about 3-4 times longer than my basic deep cycle.

I have used a few different brands but I have had the best luck for longivity with the Optima batteries.

+1 on the Interstates, and for the sevice the crew at the Superior, WI shop gives. I-states are all that I have used for the 10 years in my boat for both starting and deep cycle.

Exide Nautilus 1800's. You can get them at most Auto parts stores.

I have a question and I am not asking to upset anyone. So many use the interstate and say they are a good battery. I used one and it was fine but nothing compared to my Optima.
What makes the Interstate so much better than an Optima?

Cost is one I'm sure and the Optimas don't give you the reserve time as regular Interstates, at least thats my reason.

I've gone thru six batteries in the last 20 or so years and the last one I bought was an interstate five years ago and it still lasts as long as it did when new. All the other ones were from wally world and NAPA and after 2 - 3 years would not take a good charge anymore. No complaints with the Interstate, I'm sure if I forked over the extra dough for the Optima I would recommend that one too if it lasted as long.

Thats exactly why I went to the Optima batteries Steve.
Glad the Interstate are serving you well.

Not that I've experienced but I've heard the quality of the latest optima batteries are kinda questionable? Still a premium price, less quality.

I went with the optima for the safty factor of sleeping in a fishouse while charging a battery with a generator. A regular lead acid battery can give off potential explosive hydrogen gas!
When it comes to your kids, spend 1/2 as much money and twice as much time.

Battery quality also has something to do with how fast the inventory moves or who's maintaining them on the shelves. Optima's are expensive, so I don't think they move much. When I bought my Optima blue top, the voltage was kind of low at barely above 12 volts. I got a Cteck charger and ran the recondition mode on it to bring it up to 13 volts.
