I have not, but I have been waiting for a propane model to come out, figured it was only a matter of time, seeing as they are being rolled out on many small engines.
Seems pretty dang convenient, if it performs satisfactory. I think they burn a lot cleaner and your engine won't get gummed up.

I got a chance to use this auger last year for a little bit. All I can say is WOW. It was amazing to see the power that this unit had. I was able to run it side by side with another model and the Pro 4 beat it every compairision. I could not believe how quiet it was when it was running. You will literally be able to carry on a normal conversation with the auger running. As far as power goes, I was not able to stop the auger when it was drilling. I was also running the 3500 series last year and if I leaned on the 3500, I could get it to stop. The Pro 4 I could not. I am not a small guy either. I am 290 and with the Pro 4 it took 2 of us leaning on it to stop the drill.
This is going to make drilling in houses alot better also. No more fumes. Weight wise it was a little bit lighter too from what I could feel. I am not positive on what the new Pro 4 will weigh.

My only concerns would be performance in real cold weather and having more 1# bottles floating around on the ice. ++That I must have picked up a dozen of those 1lbers each time I was out on the lake last year. The only plus is that I never had to buy one once because I found so many partial tanks I kept my lantern running all winter on other peoples garbage. I would still like to see the new auger in action though. Gotta love seeing new stuff and putting it to work. I suppose a guy could run a tee from the heater and run it off a big tank if it was desired. Would be pretty nice to not deal with mixing gas.

It sounds Cool but since the era of Synthetic Oils, I'll have a hard time switching from my Old Strikemaster. I also can't find any info on the Jiffy.

according to a retailers website, the unit weighs in at only 25#'s. Not sure what a "regular" auger weighs, but that seems pretty light. I'd like to see one in action. I bet they run clean!! Wonder how efficient they are, i.e...how many holes will it drill per 1# tank?? I'll be in the market in a couple years, I'll seriously consider one of these if they've performed well!! I just like anything new!!

The great thing about the Propane is that it won't degrade like the gas/ethanol mix we have today.
I personally hate the oil/gas mix, so this could be a great option if it performs up to snuff.

Reed's has pulled their info, as they are already sold out. Jiffy has entirely sold out the Pro-4...any retailers who did not have their order in will not be receiving any.

I did a little more research and apparently it only drills like 30 holes per 1# tank. At about $3/tank, that's not very good holes per gallon. My jiffy model 30 will run all day drilling holes on a half gallon of $2.60/gal gas. If you're not a hole hopper and just drill your holes and stay put, it might work out. But if you're like lots of us, well over 100 holes a day is an easy day. that would get quite spendy imo. Maybe the info I read was incorrect, but that's what I found thus far. I'd like to see some specs directly from Jiffy, but couldn't find any.

It is interesting how someone on another website came up with the 30 holes per tank and the miss informed has spread to other websites.
The propane auger will run full throttle under load for around an 1 hour of run time.
So based on the thickness of ice and how long it takes to drill one hole will be the variable. It will defiantly be more than the 30.

A person that may be selling them claims that Jiffy says 75 to 100 holes on a 1 lb propane cylinder. He didn't say anything about the thickness of the ice to get this many holes. Folks that have tried them on the ice say that there is very little odor which would be good for poeple with wheelhouses. My auger is a 2 stroke and runs great with synthetic oil. I can't see spending about $500 for a new one. I wonder if Jiffy will come out with an auger that runs on gasoline now that they are into 4 strokes.

I have an old Jiffy that just won't die!!! thought for years, "this is it...time for a new one" but then she just keeps on going. Was having a little trouble with it last year, so a buddy put in a new carb kit, and BAM...just like new!! that thing is probably 20 years old and has drilled a million holes. can't justify a new one when old reliable just keeps pumping!!!

This is a post that I copied fron another forum. It sounds like a good auger from have heard and read
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would like to address some of the questions that have been raised by people attending the Fish House Modification at Thorne Brothers and others that have questions by comments people have made.
Questions / Answers The Pro 4 being propane there is: -No Primer -No Choke -No Flooding -No Smoke -Quit operation -Positive On Switch; to turn the unit off hold the switch to off position until the engine quits. Once you let go of the switch it goes back to the ON position. This feature will also be on Jiffy's 2-cycle units as well. -4 Stoke engine which uses six ounces 0W40 Synthetic Oil in the crank case. Jiffy designed the engine with two splash paddles to insure proper lubrication.
Warm up time on the auger, I have confirmed with the engineers from Jiffy and 30 – 60 seconds all is needed. The way the engine is designed, being a 4 stroke and running on propane this is all the time that it is needed, if it makes you more comfortable run it longer to warm it up.
I did start the propane unit up right away to let it run, not to warm it up to see if I had propane in the tank and to show how quit the unit ran.
YES I did have to start the wheeler several times. The wheeler came from a trade show and all the gas had to be removed from the gas tank, there was barely any gas in the tank, this is why I did not let it warm up. No I do not like replacing equipment.
Jiffy does have a digital camera and dealers have been sent an art CD. If you go to Marine Generals website they have a picture posted, Jiffy's website should be updated around October 1st. Thanks for those that have posted pictures.
Since the unit runs on one pound cylinders the propane is much cleaner than what comes from bulk tanks, no need for a filter.
The propane unit will run a good hour under load; the ice thickness and drill size will determine the number of holes.
The performance of the propane auger has been tested -20 degrees with no issues. The unit uses a high pressure regulator unlike your heaters that use a low pressure regulator. Propane will not vaporize when it gets below -40 degrees, so if you are brave enough to endure those temperatures dress warm since your propane heater will not be working either . If you are experiencing any poor performance replace the bottle with a bottle that was stored in a warmer environment.
Ekruger01 I would like to thank you for helping set up the tent; I was looking for you later in the day so I could have personally thanked you and give you a token of my appreciation.
I hope this has answered the questions that have been asked, I will do my best to answer any questions that you might have.

Had a chance to play with this auger at Thorne Bros. during the GTG. Quiet, no smoke, lots of torque. Looks like a very high quality product. Someone questioned whether 1lb propane tanks will have problems with in cold weather. Jiffy rep explained that they were tested to -20 degrees and performed well. The regulator used is different than that on a heater. He also said that one tank will power the auger under load for one hour. No gas, no mixing, no choke, no primer bulb. I was skeptical before seeing the product, but it sure looked like a solid product.

It's a good starter, low noise, low emissions, power feels good and steady.
My first impressions are it is something here to stay.
