That was like me last weekend. I got a high 40" my first cast. No more than 5 casts later a low 40". Then went the rest of the weekend without seeing a fish. Talk about a window. I tell you it can be hard to change your game plan after boating 2 in 10 minutes.
I still want to end the season with a fish. I always say this is the last cast of the year... make it count. It never happens. But really, would you be able to not cast again if you just boated a fish.

] I still want to end the season with a fish. I always say this is the last cast of the year... make it count. It never happens. But really, would you be able to not cast again if you just boated a fish. It would have to be a fish that you're pretty sure you couldn't top...sure would be nice to sit back all winter and think about the 50" you caught on your last cast of the season...hahaha. How about this...catch a fish on your last cast of the season, sit 6 months, and get one on your first cast of the next season? Think about those odds! Last September we had been out since 3:00, moved one fish a couple hours into it and then nothing.....at about 11:00 we were ready to call it quits...I just about put my rod away and I said "aw heck, one more cast"....picked the rod up and for some reason said pretty loudly "LAST CAST"......WHAM, 10 feet from the boat this fish still has us laughing! My eyes tell the story! That spot is now known as the last cast spot. But was it the last cast? Nope...we fished for almost 2 more hours after getting our second wind because of that fish. haha. (sorry to change the subject from quickest to last!)

i think i got one on the 5th cast once, no first casters though.
i also troll alot and it's just as satisfying to get one when you first start your run, 15 minutes or less, makes it less boring the rest of the night (especially when you get another, and another, and another)

2001 Muskies Inc Chapter Challunge Lake Vermilion. We pull up to our opening spot and start fishing at 6:00 AM. I think that it was my partners 3rd cast of the morning and I hear the grunt from the other side of the boat "got one" She totally inhaled a bait- 44.5" had to cut 2 of the 3 trebles hooks to release the fish. A quick photo and release and she is back swimming. We drifted over the spot and my partner replaced his 2 trebles, took off the rain gear bottoms while I made a wide swing around the spot. We were in our second drift over the spot and again like the 3rd cast I hear "got another one this ones bigger" We cut 3 trebles (she ate it deeper) measured and a quick photo- all before 6:20 AM It was awsome In the Chapter Challunge fish are rounded up or down to the nearest 1". So we had a 45 and 48 on the books in the first 20 minuets. The "North Metro B Team" was livin large- around 7:00 AM Libby was calling saying she got a 47.5" fish-- Not bad for the so called B team. The funny thing is we were talking wile loading the boat(in the morning) how you never catch a fish right away in a tournament- I guess we were wrong The Muskies Inc Chapter Challunge is a good time. I hope to fish it this year again but will have to wait and see. Good Luck Steve

This year I got a 40" on about the 7th cast, 3rd cast I had a mid 40's miss and follow in. That was on a weekend trip. Thought it was gonna be awesome, but only had a couple more chances the rest of it. You just never know.

Few years ago was out using suckers in the fall. Got to the 1st spot, rigged up and started letting the meat out.
Bobber didn't get 15 feet from the boat and it went down.
Unfortunately didn't catch any more that day!

Hiya - Been in the boat twice for first cast on opening morning fish. One was me, 6 or 7 years ago. Miracle that I hooked it, because I sure wasn't ready. The other was my friend Jack Burns, on Lake of the Woods. I guess statistically it's as likely to happen on the first cast as any other, but it's sure a shock... Although I do believe in the "curse fish." Catch one right off the bat and you're screwed for the rest of the day... Cheers, Rob Kimm

Although I do believe in the "curse fish." Catch one right off the bat and you're screwed for the rest of the day... Cheers, Rob Kimm I totally agree Rob. Some days just seem like one fish days one if you get one early you should just go home - does that make me old? Problem is, my stupid stupid brain says, "Feeding window, they're eating now" so I stay for 3 or 4 or 8 more hours... There's other times when you put in a long day and as soon as one's in the net its like you've earned your right to leave!
