Anyone Recommend a Portable for Ice Spear Fishing?

I never use a fish house for ice fishing but would like to try spear fishing this winter so I need to try to find the right house. Do people successfully use portables for spear fishing? If so, what is a good portable for this? The lighter/smaller the better but I am 6'-3" so want to avoid anything too small.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

If I were to decide to spear I would get a pop up like a quickfish6. That way you got lots of room to do what you got to do without being cramped. I got a quickfish3 myself and love it and I have borrowed my buddy's 6 and its pretty easy to handle by myself.

The hubs will do well for an ultralight portable. The black heavy denier materials on the Frabill "Outpost" or Eskimo's filter more light out.

The Frabill toboggan style floored shacks like the "OutBack" has an open side that serves well for spearing needs and angling needs. Very reasonably priced units.

Canvas Craft makes a very nice portable for spearing. I believe Bass N Spear uses one and likes it very much.

Not the lightest but it is a nice unit.

If you go with a hub style house build a simple fold up plywood floor with some outdoor carpet on it. Always be safe, slick wet ice and a 6 sq ft hole in the ice are not a good mix.

If you have a portable fish house currently and it lets too much light in you can build a cover out of quilted moving blankets quick and cheep. Or just simply throw some blankets over the top of it. Once again build a small floor for it.

I have a very light hard side house (built by a cat fishing, turkey hunting, darkhouse spearing , FMer) and several portables also.

I really like the hard side and wouldn’t get rid of it but would not get rid of my 8 X 8 double canvas craft portable either.

Having tried many different types of darkhouses, the only thing I can agree on is that the perfect spear house is the one where the spear hole already cut in the ice. smile

If you want to try some out before buying just let me know. I have a multiple darkhouses set up all winter and you can try one of mine out for free anytime you would like.

Take a kid darkhouse spearing, it is an experience they will enjoy for a lifetime!!!

Same here as with merk u can try my quickfish 3, it has a 48x27 inch hole with folding spear floor, merk was talkin something like mine, it fits 3 peeps, plus gear plus its very portable, and I'm 6'2" n I can stand in it, quick6 is too big, canvas craft is also nice but can be heavy, merk should have pics of my setup somewhere he has pics for everything. Plus my quickfish was completely heated with a single mr buddy heater.
