Not sure if this is the right spot to post this but here goes. Anybody know the ice conditions or fish the rum. I got a couple holes near cambridge the the eyes might be stacked in. But would rather be safe than sorry.

I had that same idea last winter! I love fishng the Rum and when a family friend bought a house on a bend just south of Cambridge I was extatic! So here is my 2 cents... Surprisingly the ice was a foot thick as long as I stayed in the bend. The water was about 12' deep but it was murky enough and has enough current where I couldnt make out too much on a camara. I figured fish had to be stacked in there though with the two long stretches of shallow straight-aways on either side of the bend but I didnt mark any on the flasher and with 4 tipups covering the bend we didnt have 1 flag! smirk I want to try again, so please let me know how you do!

Interesting. I've never ice fished the river, but fished the Rum a lot in my time. They gotta be in the deep holes. They all can't migrate to Anoka, can they?

Experience is knowledge, everything else is just information.

Lots of snowmobiles running the river around Cambridge. I grew up not far from the Rum west of Cambridge & and learned long ago to never trust the ice. It's more phobic on my part but I haven't been on the Rum's ice since I broke thru on a cold Feb. day many years ago.

It does turn into a drag strip in the winter so be careful where you set up.

It's not a designated trail and you have the right put a line down wherever you want but that won't change any bad outcome if it happens.

I haven't fished it through the ice myself but hung out with my neighbor who was fishing a spot he did well on during the fall. Nothing.

You bet the fish are in there - somewhere and yeah, the deep holes would be the places to check. You may find the mother load, or they could just be locked jawed for one reason or another. Noise maybe.

If a person finds em concentrated and the bite is good, please practice minimal harvest as this is the easiest way to damage fish populations for miles of riverway for the seasons where they are dispersed.

Good luck!

Lots of Eyes in the Rum that can be caught through the ice in the winter, the stretch from Cambridge to St, Francis has about 8 spots that I have fished at various times and yielded Walleyes.

Bends in the river and deep holes are the key, find both and you are golden.

Gave it a shoot with little to show for the effort. Never seen this but the first spot I drill dropped the vex and got no reading. After a minute of looking I notice two feet of slush under the ice. Drill some more and it was the same in that hole. Then got the vehical stuck at the landing got out and trying one more spot. Graphed a few fish but by that time it was to late in the day. Will give it a try another day. 8 to 12 inches of ice.
