The night bite slowed down last night with most reports as real slow. The morning bite was a better and more guys are getting them now during the day. We just got done checking all 19 houses and green was the color of the morning with most folks and blue working good as well. We are all out in deeper water, the pike chased us out of everything in close a 42, 40, 40 & 36 and it was time to go. They are fun to catch but most guys donít have the patience for it.

Our Navy guys headed out today and they had a good time. Last night they got a big Walleye and it got off at the hole, with some quick reaction time one of them went and dived for it. When he pulled it out of the hole you could here the hoot and hollering from across camp. They said they where coming up again and wanted to reserve for next year for fifty guys.

Billy, Dallas and I are taking some reprieve from are fishing assault and will set course a plan tomorrow. With all are ships in one area we will start spreading them out in new territory. We will now roll across the lake advancing the flag like a machine. Big Bird is sitting there ready to bust up new ground. Tonight we eat, drink and rest?

The bite has been slow for most, those however that are using one line to bounce a buck shot seam to be performing twice as good as others. The guys that have automatic jiggers have been doing better when they just bounce a rattle on it, they however wonít catch a thing on anything they jig they are just attracting more fish. Dead sticking is providing more fish in the pale and you have to leave it dead, bounce it and there gone. This has become very evident with those that have cameras tap it and silt is all you see. The only thing in your hand should be your beer.

The fish seam to be definably in transition with the night bite tapering off and more being caught in the morning evening. The day bite appears to be out performing the night bite at the present time. We are currently fishing in about 15.5 feet of water, 17 feet by way of the map. We have set a course and will spread our houses out between the deeper water and the Center Bar as historically this has been effective for this time of year under our forecasted weather conditions. We should be in good shape to get fish coming or going off the Bar and in deeper water that is a little warmer for when the temp drops.

Traditional colors have still been the most effective with blue and gold combinations to red or green seam to be doing very well. The guys with portables that our moving around a couple times a day have been doing very well and catching a lot more fish. By the weekend we will be in good shape and spread out with our 4th move of the year.

Fishing pick up with sum guys doing better than others. We moved eight houses yesterday and will move some more today. Everything that was on a dead bite got moved yesterday. One guy that we put out there that was singing the blues the day before, got 24 walleyes and a 38 inch pike in a half a day. The houses that were in what I called fishing hell that we moved a couple of days ago, I went back there to get our orange cone that we left and talked to a guy that was set up there with a portable and he was having a blast. The fish up here are nomadic, one day youíre bumming and the next day your throwing walleyes back in the hole like it will never end.

Thanks guys for a great weekend! Nate and I had a great time with your two man rent-and-go this past Thurs thru Sunday. We picked up 49 eyes and had a good time. We cruised up to LOW on Friday, but it was very tough there as well. We only picked up 5 fish there and one was a keeper.

You guys run a great operation and your houses are very nice. I would recommend you to anyone looking to do a Red trip. We will be back!

Thanks again,
Greg

I like it when hard work pays off. We moved the majority of camp and spread the houses out in groups of three about 400 yards apart and a good 200 feet off our road and 800 yards off the main road. The heated outhouse will stay back your going to have to drive to it; itís not far but with all the traffic it takes from our groups the fishing around it starts to die off. I have always believed the fisherman and the fish houses lead the way, lately it seams that everyone wants the outhouse to lead the way but it goes against me code.

The fisherman this week are in for a treat it is not often you get this kind of heat wave up here in January and guys were spread out all over the place just standing outside fishing, throwing footballs, Frisbees, barbequing and all that participated in that activity did very well. We have just a couple more to move in are 4th move, to our formation for this time of year.

A special thanks to ďThe Upper Red CapĒ made by Midwest itís the cats meow to goods nights sleep we hooked these bad boys and gas tanks up to are generators and its no more late night runs to fill generators, with more rest and time we are able to move more than ever and even take in time to eat. They were the silver bullet to the Coyote in are program.

Our portable village is living up to its name and rolling across the lake like the fishing gypsies we are. One day we are here the next day we are gone stealing Walleyes wherever we can.

I'll probably bring a grill up too since the weather is going to be so nice. I'm coming up Friday with my wife and staying in one of your 2-man sleepers. Hopefully you put us on a hot spot so the wife doesn't get bored ;)

It's our first time, so do we just check in at Rogers when we get there and wait for someone?

The fishing has been pretty good the last twenty fours hours with guys getting fish randomly through out the day & night. We have had a few guys do poorer than others but have guys catching fish on both sides nothing to justify moving from this location as of yet. Jigging has finally become more promising with 50% of the fish taking it to the gut.

We are mostly getting Walleyes with a couple of Crappies here and there. Yesterday I got to witness a guy catch and release a 40 inch pike, the biggest fish he ever caught and three hours later another guy caught a 40 inch pike the biggest he ever caught and I was sure it was the same fish, he released it as well. The weather has been fantastic and steady the fishing seams to be improving and after talking to the ten outfitters from this resort all report about the same. I plowed a new road but at this time I have not had the need to use it. I have sent fisherman with portables down it and they have done very well, the tips have paid my pizza bill at the resort.

Life is easy for an outfitter when things are rolling like this, but it wonít last long and Mother Nature will be putting the smack down on us again. We have been running every day trying to get everything we can think of done as we know we will pay for this warm up down the road.

Well we burned up Dallas and he headed for home today for some R&R, he had an abscessed tooth that was bothering him pretty good for the last week. He wanted me to pull it with a pliers but it was in pretty good so we packed it with some aspirin and he made it another day. The kid came up to relive him and went to bed at 7:30 PM, I told this place is starting to bore me and he knows what that means. The fishing has been slow to ok with most guys having a good time. Its time for a new view, I even fished the outhouse and just what I figured thatís a dead bite we will have to have this thing away from camp, it gets to much traffic.

I will be heading out on Sunday, Bill will becoming back up to take my place. Bill is still dealing with his post traumatic stress syndrome after taking 40 gallons of sewage to the chest when it was -27 degrees and turned him into a Popsicle. I did very well, I listened while he yelled about it but when he paused and then started yelling he had toilet paper froze in his hair I couldnít help but laugh. Someday we will put together a little therapeutic workshop and let him take an axe to it.

We got caught back up to today after yesterdays incident that caused us some down time and kept a few guests back at the resort until the sheriff and the CO tended to business. We had to go to code red for awhile until some untypical fisherman were escorted off the lake. Then it was back to business as usual, dropping houses and moving on. I wonít put up with anyone threatening our guests, their accommodations or their visitors. In all my time of doing this those guys were one of a kind.

The Center Bar is somewhere between a circus and carnival with all kinds of territorial wars going on and fisherman finding fish but not knowing whoís road they are on. With entertainment being provided by the usual, who can snow bank the other guy out. With all that racket and snow plows banging like jousting knights I would rather sit off the bar and watch with the fish. There is about 40,000 acres out there with not a house on it and its time to explore.

Well the bite has been slow down the row today and last night. The outhouse has been doing very well and I had just condemned its location the last couple of days. We have been using a white glow demon with a red dot. The kid and I have caught a couple of limits and had a good meal and we are not in the house much. We will see how it goes tomorrow; I already plowed up a new road in anticipation of the exodus. We went to the other edge of the hole and popped in some AC DC and threw some snow. While banging the edge guys told me it turned on the fishing for a while.

It seams like just as youíre about to pull the pin it lights up and you donít want to leave. It was marginal for awhile and then the groups do great and now itís slowed down, very frustrating and my rent & go guys are saying the same thing and they are out of two other resorts. For the most part everyone is having a good time we just wish it would light up some more. We will see what tomorrow brings and adjust from there.

Well I am back in town. I talked to Bill and he said the fishing is still spotty with some in the groups doing well and others not. It seams to be random nothing consistent, the outhouse is still doing very well and it was dead for along time. If they were my own personal shacks I probably wouldnít move. We are going to try the other side of the boat and fish the other side of the hole they are in the process of making the move at this time hopefully we will have a more consistent bite as we did when we started on the other side. Tip ups and putting guys along this edge put enough fish in the bucket its worth doing a lateral move.

Its been asked,

You have had a couple of day shacks that we could use if we choose. Will that be the same case this year?

Most of the time we have had a couple of houses to use when we are in the process of making a move we will let our customers fish them while the group is catching up. We normally move Sun- Tues., and it looks like you fall into that time frame. Most folks that do the 3 day week day find themselves in that rotation, but it depends on weather and fishing reports.

Also how far are you keeping the outhouse from the rest group of your shacks?

Its at this time 100 to 800 yards away I have not made up my mind yet as to how far it should be, we are doing well there at this time and it sees more racket than anywhere else.

Well here I sit back in the cities and Bill calls me and tells me fishing is picking up. When I was younger I never filed my taxes on time, I filed an extension and did them later in the year. The more I think about it this is wrong I mean all wrong, I have all the ice fishing equipment a guy could want and I have to listen to how good someone else is doing? If thatís not bad enough I just told the wife today that I might have to pull the pin that the plow truck is down and a snow storm is coming and my truck is needed up there, just to have Billy call me and tell me he got the truck back this evening.

It has been nice however to get some rest and I am starting to get over this pneumonia I have been fighting since the start of fishing. My doctor is starting to sound like my wife sheís given up knows I will do what I intend to do. She gives me some advise, some meds and let me do my thing. I think the best medicine is to just keep moving and Bill tells me he is back at that as well.

Chris hope you and Dallas are feeling better. We had a real good time. I wish you would have stopped in to grill your steaks but we managed to have fun without you. Fishing was a little slow but we had a real good fish fry and everybody went home with a limit of eyes. Hoped you liked the beef tender loin. I stopped in and took a peek at one of your 6 man shacks and those babys are real nice. I'll have to rent one of them next time I come up.

Mike,
Glad you had a great time and we loved the beef tenderloin, my kid said were did you get that and hit the plate. I wanted to spend some more time with are groups I even had some of our construction clients up and didnít have much time to socialize, I could feel it was time to make a move and when that instinct hits me I get a little in a zone. My wife calls it tunnel vision and I call it focus. I had talked enough to the guys I had spotted with portables to know we had a fish migration a brewing and I wanted to make the cut off. We shifted to the other side and it paid off. Thanks again for your patience in getting into your house while we had some folks escorted off the lake and knowing that the steak opportunity was there, it was as good as having it.

Everyone is digging out today with the lake as quite as its ever been. Most roads have been abandoned and new ones are in the making. Most folks are getting cars started and finding places to park on goat trails that were once roads. Almost all of our houses are on fresh spots except two and Rogers new road in progress goes right past the camp so access at least to our place will be in real good shape. Everything is snow covered and digging out tools and equipment will make for along day, but at the same time everything looks brand new and peaceful after the storm. With all the plow trucks out of Rogers it wonít take long for everything to be running smooth again. It looks like I missed that adventure but I always love it after a storm its like Mother Nature just wipes it all a new.

Working out of Rogers is such blessings with the way all the outfitters work together you have to be part of it to really appreciate it. We had some other outfitters guests stay with us, we had outfitters driving out are people; we had their helpers with us and then ours with theirs, we would be stuck and then they would. Everyone helping everyone its awesome and the back up equipment is just unreal, Billy told me at one point Jerry the resort owner had three plow trucks stuck and he would go in and get another. The costumers hunkered down for a while and then jumped in the action as well. I have always said I love it up there, itís the folks that you are surrounded by, our guests, the fisherman, and even what you would call your competition in the cities. Up there they are and you are each others backup.

There has been one benefit from being home the last week I went to the local pub and watched the game. While I was there and having a good time I couldnít help but think if only the place was on the ice with holes along the side and folks fishing and watching the game, having a good time catching and eating fish. Next year on Sundays we are going to take are six mans and make them the club house for the game we will slap some dishes on those units, put in some tables, flat screen TVs and have ourselves a fish fry.

Today I am getting more supplies and getting ready to head back up until the end of February. A guy just doesnít know how spoiled he is until he fishes around the cities. We still have a lot of fun but itís a whole different meaning to the word slow. I canít wait to get back up there, itís a lot of work but at the same time I find it very rewarding. I do not know how many guys have caught the biggest fish they have ever caught but itís been a lot of fun being part of it.

Its like 24 hours of fun and hell all at once, you go from smiling to getting poked in the eye and back up again. I told a buddy of mine its like when I was younger I could go out to the bar have a few drinks chase girls, get in a few fights and come back the next weekend. Now itís just drinking, chasing fish, Mother Nature beating on you and you just keep on fighting at it until the season ends and it always does. I just find this to be a better fit with my age bracket and within the same sense of spirit I told him.

Hi Chris,

My name is Cory, my cousin (Mason) and I along with 6 other guys have reserved a couple of shacks from you for 2/25 - 2/28, this is our first time to Red Lake... are you going to put us on some fish or what? Ha! just kidding.

In all seriousness, we are very excited for our upcoming trip. We have a couple questions about items to bring. Do we need to bring our generator? Is there TV's in any of the shacks? Do you have rattle wheels in the shacks?

Just curious, thanks for your help. See you in a few weeks.

Cory

The fishing has been very good for some and poor for others across the distance of a city block in length, 50 for one, 10-20 for others and one for one. Pink has been the color of choice it appears and jigging with anything that rattles has been drawing them in, still a lot of lookers but they have not picked up many jigging. Dead sticking seams to be getting more fish. Houses doing good one day are slow the next and those that were slow do better. We have done better in than out farther.

Today we will move are main camp to get ready for the next storm. The kid has been working real hard so we will cut him some slack today and get ready for another move. We have a bunch of guys up and they brought a couple of kegs of beer and had a camp fire last night and it sounds like it was a lot of fun the kid spent some R&R time so he will have to sleep it off. They tried to talk me into it but I wonít if I feel we need to move things around some. If I had a beer at each shack it would be 19 a day and I wouldnít be worth much anyone.
