If there is ice in the middle of the lake and you take your boat out there and kick or drill holes in the ice could you legally use two line? i would think you could cuase your threw the ice, but a hibbing man was fined when he was fishing out of his boat last spring. What are your thoughts mine were if he did have his holes and boat was tied up i think it would be legal, it does say ice fishing and he really was fishing threw those holes

You'd probably be left up the the discretion of the CO. He could either fine you are pat you on the back for creativity. But I'd rather not take the chance on the fine.

If you are in the boat 1 line because technically you are not ice fishing you are fishing in ice. If you get out of the boat and stand on the ice two lines. That is how I would place my bets... Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

so i ran into a dnr today and asked him about this and he said wow your thinking, and i said no i just heard of a guy getting a fine for this. he told me that if your lines are threw any forms of ice that are natural formed it is legal, no where did he state you had to sit on the ice. he even did something i have never seen before first he called another co and asked and they had same idea, the second he actully called head quarters and they said the same .

Interesting....now if they can find a peice of shoreline that is all melted or not frozen yet then I would assume it's illegal?

I wonder if he was using ice fishing rods or summer rods? Anyways if I took a boat full of my ice fishing gear out to the middle of a lake and anchored the boat somehow and got out and drilled holes in the ice, I would use 2 lines. If I were in the boat fishing through ice, I would stick to 1 line.
