Four years ago Jiffy started to look at new engines that could be used for power augers. With EPA putting tighter restrictions on small engines Jiffy wanted to have an alternative engine just in case the Tecumseh engines could no longer be used. So the search was on for a new engine, Jiffy looked at Solo, Shiwanda, Briggs, Honda and several others.

Jiffy required an engine that worked with the torque that they require on their transmissions already. The engineers at Jiffy were not pleased with the overall performance of these engines so they started to design their own engine by working with a small engine company and carburetor company to create their own engine. The company that is building the engines has been manufacturing small engines for many years.

Jiffy would of liked to have the engines made in the USA but their was not a facility that had the capability to produce these engines with a reasonable price and the capability to manufacture and ship engines as needed.

One of the company’s listed above had the potential of being used but the engine company could not fulfill the quantity of engines that Jiffy would need. Jiffy prides themselves on being manufactures and having the capability of never running out of product.

Jiffy started having test engines built for them almost four years ago. So you can see Jiffy has been working on an engine for some time, they had test units on the ice for several years and have done extensive testing until they had right engine.

Last October when Tecumseh announced that they were shutting the doors Jiffy did not have to scurry to look for an engine, they had an engine. Last October Jiffy introduced their new engine under the radar with their Model 60, this engine performed flawlessly last season by the consumer so Jiffy new they had the right engine.

Jiffy has two models of engines the 2500 series and the 3500 series.

The Model 2500 series has a 41cc engine with a 12:1 gear ration and the Model 3500 series has a 51cc engine with a 15:1 gear ration. Both of these engines feature a non flood carburetor and there are no jets that need adjustments. The weight of the power heads are the same, about the same as a 2hp Tecumseh. So you can have the 3hp performance without the weight with the Model 3500.

Jiffy has not changed their transmission or their cutting technology, only the engines.

Jiffy transmissions, flitting, blades, etc. are still made in the USA.

In regards to service you will find that Jiffy has the same great customer service that everyone raves about with Strikemaster. If you lived in Wisconsin you could bring your auger directly into Jiffy for service as well.

Jiffy is working with small engine shops that do service work for small engines for any warranty work. In the mean time if there is any need of repair on the new engines the consumer just needs to contact Jiffy for a RA# and a UPS call tag and they can ship the auger to Jiffy for repairs, the turn around time out of Jiffy is one day. If you are in the area, stop into the factory.

If you need to put a name on the engine it is a Jiffy engine since it is designed by Jiffy. In regards to the name Badger, this is the earth auger from Feldmann Engineering, the parent company of Jiffy.

I've used jiffy's customer service once, because of my tecumseh powerhead having a defect in it, and like IcePro said, i sent it to them and had it back the day after next fixed and ready to roll, free of charge. my uncles and their friends all had jiffy's when i was growing up, and still use them today. no one had a strikemaster. thats why i bought a jiffy.

Nope, it's on the power head of a Jiffy ICE auger at gander in Bemidji MN. Not in big print like "Solo" on the SM but it's on it in small print.

Hmmmm, usually their earth augers have a Badger engine on them. Sorry.

Funny story I went back to Gander today, and I cant find where it said Badger on it. I KNOW I seen it because the first time I couldn't remember if it was Badger or Baldor so the next time I was there I looked again and I found it and it said Badger. I never even new Jiffy had a product with the Badger name so I don't know where I would have pulled that name from. Looks like I got ice in the face also!

I believe the rotation is the other way on the Jiffy Badger models as well...so theoretically...they can run a Lazer lower unit if adapted to do so. They also have a beefed up gear box, and I think...run at a lower ratio too.

I looked at the new jiffy and lazer augers. I was not impressed. the lazer with its plastic handles looks very cheap and the jiffy well i think i will just run my 3hp jiffy legend for a few more years. might even change out the 11 year old spark plug

I have a question... I have a SM 10" chipper model. I was wondering if it would be ok to buy a shaver blade and just swap the two? I love my SM but with the chipper blade it seems like I need to sharpen the blade at least once a year if not twice... It also doesn't cut holes as fast as I would like but I got a great deal on the auger so I wouldn't mind spending a little extra on a new blade.. ANy info would be great. thanks

The pitch is different on the two models at the point where the blades will mount. You would need to buy a new complete Lazer lower unit to make it work.

A single shaver blade would not work, they need to operate in pairs to counter each other in the rotation. So, you can't just swap the 1 blade.

It is about $150 +/- for a new complete lower Lazer flighting new in 8".

Ya know what really empresses me with the new Solo engines.....they will run vertical, horizontal...and even upside down.

Bro Brosdahl and I were showing them to costumers at Gander on Saturday, and I can tilt them at a horizontal angle left, and right, and no flooding or choking out...and just for fun...I said Bro..."Watch this"...turned it upside down and opened up the throttle....still ran at full power.

As a nearly 25 year Jiffy fan..(GULP) ....I'm going to say it....So here we go...Yup..I'm very impressed with the new StrikeMaster's!

I'll have to say that is now the auger I'm looking at the most, and will likely buy next.

Wow that is awesome Mr. Carlson I have been looking since 1960 for a Auger that drills upside down. That will really come in handy If I break thru the ice!!!!!

Yah..ok..ya got me there..ZING...Oh-Ouch...boy do I feel silly now.

But my point is the fuel system is not as sensitive to motion and position as the Tecumseh motor was/is...can ya grasp that concept a bit quicker?

I recommend you run a Solo, see what you think for yourself.

I am anxious to try the new solo out. I had to give you some aggravation about that post Ed it was all in fun.

I have been a diehard jiffy user for years. Still have two but they are heavy but a very realiable. Both will fire up on about the 2nd or 3rd pull. That said I purchase a Nils and I really like it. Nice and light and realiable. A Jiffy will burn a hole now matter how dull though shaver blades will just turn.
