a buddy of mine uses carpet and I think that a piece of thin plywood with a hole cut in it would work also. good luck

I use a shappell pop-up, basically the same as a quikfish. I just use a piece of carpet to lay on the ice. Its about half the size of the floor, and butts up to the edge of the hole. I don't use cleats, only if its no snow and glare ice. I really like the pop-up style house for spearing, a lot easier to set up than my wood and canvas collapsible house. And way lighter.

I have one of them! I use black marine carpet- cheap stuff about 29 cents a sq ft- fleet farm or menards, I cover all the floor and leave a rectangle for the hole, works like a charm and def darkens the whole shack real good, Ive had quite a bit of luck with it! Hope this helps, carpet keeps ya from sliding and doesnt move on the ice n the marine carpet doesnt get very heavy even when wet.

I've been considering a hub style house like this for a portable spear house too but can't figure out where I would attach a line for the decoy with no poles in the house.

What do you guys do?

pike tipper i use a small clamp on rattle reel i clamp it to one of the poles i made sure i bought one with a rubber type coating on the clamp so it wont wreck the canvas then i tighten the screw snug but loose enough so when i fall a sleep and mr pike comes in and takes the decoy it pulls enough so i dont loose it when i use a bigger decoy i tied a piece of tip up line to the clamp and then tied a quick snap to it as a precaution i believe ther used for like rock climbing hook there cheap about a $1 hope this helps its worked well for me

Framing and Plywood for the quick fish 3, It took me about 2 hours to put together using 7/16th ply and 2x2, Ill post more pics once I get it completed with hinges and carpet- in the midst of makin a new perm shack too, overall thing weighs about 40lbs if that, got sick of tearing up wet carpet, if you have a plastice sled to hual this thing it would be awsome

Second pc covered in plywood

The only problem I see with that wooden floor is that it may freeze down or sink into the ice after making the hole. Good way to keep dry and a little warmer but not sure if i would want to be chiseling it out too often.

My dad uses a wooden floor in his flip over (ice fishing not spearing) and it works great for him.
He pulls it up every night though.

Laska;

I assume you will use a good oil based paint on it.

I would think about cutting that right down the center and adding a piano hinge to it so it folds up smaller.

You could make it so the hinge runs parallel with the hole and then the piece with the hole cut in it will fold over and on top of the piece without the hole.

Add some removable skis to the bottom of the piece without the hole and you are in bussiness, a floor and a sled all in one.

It should work good either the way you have it or with the mods.

Good Job and thanks for sharing!!

cant, when you move it all the time, and if your going to have it on the ice alot, then make sure you put wood in the corners to keep it up in the air!

See the floor is for short outings, not over night so I should be fine not blocking it, the thing will be hinged from the hole in the middle to the back, I have a sled Ill be putting it in already, heavy duty paint is a must right.... been busy lately with deer season so no progress yet but today I have a good chunk of time soo hopefully this thing will be close to done today...

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but wanted your opinion on the QuickFish 3. I just bought one tonight and will be spearing in it tomorrow. I am going to throw an old rug down for now, but I am little worried about standing on slush and ice in front of a big hole. Any thoughts?

Use the rug tomorrow then make a floor as soon as you can.

As soon as someone buys my 8 X 8 Northlander I think I am going to end up with a QuickFish 3 and a floor.

Cheers to QUICKFISHNOOB AND MERK!!!!

You guys make me smile! Wish I could have a red one, I like red better than green but thats just me...

Merk if you buy one Ill help you build the floor.

quickfishnoob- rug will work for tomorrow, but invest in a back saving floor like I built, you wont beat it for around $40 and it will last ya along time, mine is going on its end of the 3rd year with the wood still like I bought it yesterday. As far as safety it will greatly add to it... When I first got mine I used marine carpet which is still on the actuall floor to this day, but b4 the floor I just used the carpet-only problem was is stuck to the ice and it was lumpy from the snow and ice... I can fit my floor in the back of a cobalt and escort so it is very portable!

Im will be working on a new version this summer when I may have more time that will fold into 4 pieces... But it will come in time.

Left my floor out this last weekend on winnie and I was able to easily lift it up and fold it up and put it away, not bad for sitting 3 days... best part was day one it displaces enough weight that the floor sits above the slush-any slush no joke!! Just ask me ill tell you stories! So about corner wood or anything-you dont have to thats what makes it portable! Blocking it up would be like a perm, not needed with this set up. I have 3 years experience with outings every weekend with this thing, trust me, never had to chisel it out or anything of that nature, thinking to hard into things is where people can run into problems with a simple design like this...

I seriously feel like I need to write a brochure on this thing! lol I do love talking about it tho! Sry this post was a small book, o by the way my blueprints are copyrighted grin

Thanks Merk and Laska -

I will post if I get any luck. Laska, do you have any more info on how you built your floor? I checked out this thread, but could use a nudge in the right direction on building one.

I only saw one little snake. I threw at it for practice, and I need practice (chucked it out of instinct instead of dropping it).

A few observations.
1) The tent is huge and relatively dark even with no floor.
2) Some light comes in through the seams, but not enough to create reflections.
3) A Mr. Heater - Little Buddy is not enough to heat the whole house (at least not without a floor
4) A floor seems like an absolute necessity (at least in the case of spearing). I felt uneasy leaning over the hole while standing on the ice.

Those are my thoughts for now. Going out again over the weekend after I build my floor. I will probably modify Laska's design. Hoping to get a makeshift ski apparatus and put another hinge somewhere to make it a bit smaller. I might even put a angling hole or two in the back corners.

Me: "Hey there is a big log following my lure!"
PGF: "FIGURE 8!"

mr heater single heats my shack fine, with a floor, you lose alot of heat without the floor. Angle out of the spearhole and leave yourself the extra storage space in the corners. You could attach break away skis if you hinged it the opposite way I did.

even better than that I just recently put 2 bungee cords together, used small "s" hooks-put them thru the nylon straps that hold the bars in then ran the bungee cords from one corner to the other over the hole. They travel nicely and never have to be removed. I hang my spinners from that otherwise my deak jigsticks I wedge in the top bars than hang the line over the bungees so the strings are just past halfway towards the back of my hole. hope this helps any ?'s just ask me...
