I have a Strike Master Express auger that is 4 or 5 years old... It won't start now and is puking gas out of the exhaust.... I am thinking something is stuck in the carb?? How much would it be to fix?? I am thinking 50 bucks or am I way off? My grandpa just gave me his 3HP Jiffy 10" auger new last year since he has health problems now... What could I expect to get for the Strike Master?

About six bucks for a carb kit and thirty to forty dollars labor, depending where it is repaired.
Old fuel in the carb and caused varnish on the inlet needle.

Drain the old fuel out, dump in a bunch of SeaFoam and let it sit for a day. Work some SeaFoam through the carb by giving it a few pulls... with the spark plug wire off.

After the day of soaking... drain it.

If I were you I would just as well change out the spark plug too at this time.

Now add NEW Fresh fuel/oil mix...see if it snaps out of it.

If it still drewls fuel, it will need a carb kit.

My old Mag 2000 did the same thing, I just got a new carb for it and sold it to a buddy, been running great since. Think a new carb was like $70 from D Rock in the cities. Easy DIY job tales about 30 minutes.

I second what Ed said. But if you still can't get it to run I bought a new carb for mine. It cost about $50. I had issues for a couple of years and just bought a new carb and was done with it. Runs like new now. My fault not Strikemasters. Your problem is the needle is stuck.

Mine did the same thing during its second year of use. I drained it completely, soaked the filter, and basically cleaned the whole thing out. New plug and it's run like a champ ever since. Turned out the oil/gas ration they put on the little oil bottles is much more than needed. I thinned it out and mix to about a 1:75 ratio now.

Try and get into the habit of firing up the auger every few weeks during the off-season. It solves some of the problems an auger can aquire when not used for 8 months or so. The neighbors already think I'm nuts, even more so when I'm mock augering in my yard in July. wink

And as for me I can sit here and bide my time

I'm going to sleep in my wheelhouse tonite, it's sitting in the driveway warming up right now, I wonder what your neighbors would think. I know the bride thinks I've lost it.

Dont choke it. The strikemaster seems to not need choking after the thing gets a few years on it. So after you Seafoam, change the plug and put new gas in, dont choke it anymore.

getting any bites?
