When does everyone think the Metro ice will get here. I hope to be on the water December 15th with my portable (and a lifejacket).

i think december 15th is a very good guess for metro ice. i think i'd like to see something a little sooner, as would everyone else, but that is just not realistic. being that the first 2 and a half weeks of december i am going to be busy with finals in school, it doesn't really make a difference. if we don't get ice until after im done with finals, that will probably be a good thing as i will spend more time on school and less fishing. i still plan on open water fishing the river until i mother nature doesn't allow me... with luck, i will only have a time of 2 weeks in between open and hard water seasons.

We need some serious cold - guessing Dec 22nd. I hope it's sooner too. All my ice fishing stuff is sprawled all over my living room. I'm getting the ice itch.

I saw windsurfers and a guy swimming in lake Calhoun yesterday! Albeit he stripped and jumped in for kicks, it still looked more like late summer out there yesterday than almost winter.

I don't see any ice making weather in the forecast, but who knows. It would be nice for a change if we had a good cold stretch for atleast a week before it snows. I'm hoping for the weekend before Christmas:)

Fall windsurfing is like guys getting on first ice. While one guy is claiming to be the first on the ice, another is saying I was the last guy to surf the lake.

I live on Vermilion east end, Tower area. Pike bay has skimmed over twice now and as soon as the south wind comes, there goes the skim coat of ice. It was 47 here today, should have left the boat in the lake for a while longer.

Frank, over in the Vermilion forum, had some encouraging and bleak advice... Either some really cold weather or some really warm weather. It will likely go one way or the other. Keep your fingers crossed, and come up with a plan B.

There is supposed to be a cold snap towards the end of the week, supposedly to get down to single digits at night, so maybe sooner than everyone thinks?

Hopefully the single digit forecast holds true. I'd like to be hitting some pike by Dec 12th.

Metro lake I was at on Friday had water temps that ranged from 39-41. It's getting there.

It will be here a few days after you read the stories or see the newscasts about the half dozen doofi that either do a terminal wash job on their truck, or just plain croak when they fall through. Happens ever year. The only goal for me is to make sure it's someone else.

Ice is ice but it's never safe. I'm going to go out as soon as I think there's at least 2 inches and I'm going to be wearing a PFD and bringing picks to drag myself out if I bust through.

I drove by a pond yesterday and saw it all froze up, that gets a guy excited. like most, i've been getting all of my gear ready for the first day. i'm predicting dec. 12th some lakes will be ready to go with the consistent 32 or below forecast that is here!

Call me a curmudgeon, but I don't get exciting until I see some subzero weather in the forecast. The weather we have now will only make some dangerous stuff that people will fall through. That being said, I need to fire up my auger soon......

Nothing better than seeing a lake trying to make ice. Our time is coming!

The southeast side of Lake Marion in Lakeville is skimmed over as of tonight. I couldn't believe there was already ice out there. Almost looked like quite a bit of the lake was skimmed over, as I could see the little dusting of snow on most of it. It was hard to tell in the dark, but it was promising not to see open water everywhere! Hope these temps hold.
