How's the walleye fishing around the Ford Dam in Pool 2? I've never fished the Mississippi before and would like some advice on what my work this time of year. Thanks for the help.

Are there other areas in Pool 2 that are worth trying this time of year? Thanks!

this is the time of year when walleyes move up towards the damns in pools of the mississippi (regardless of which pool it is). the key is finding them. the current is very strong up by the ford dam, so boat control is key, as well as positioning in slack waters and eddy's near current. jig with a minnow has produced for me

Jon,

I hooked into 11 on last Sat and 3 on Sun. Most are 15 inchs or less and you miss a ton of little hits but every few hits its a nice fish. My biggest was a 22 on Sat and a 17 sauger on Sun. Just like Miller said keep in the slack water right next to the strong current. Good Luck

-Bill

Can a guy shore fish near the Ford dam, and catch any walleyes, or is a boat definitely needed?

You can shore fish for sure. Either side too.

1-2oz sinker>swivel>about a foot leader>circle hook with a fathead or some minnow. Night Crawlers will work too, but I think that's more of a spring deal.

Cast into an eddy that's close to faster water - they'll find it.
