We will be heading up to lake of the woods for the first time in late december and I can't wait. But there is one problem we have no idea what to bring. What types of lures usually work best?

Thomas is my name and fishin is my game.

Gold, Gold, Gold, Chartruse, Red in that order for lure colors. Any of the popular lures work - Rattle spoons, swedish pimples, etc. (have a few types and experiment a bit). The second line should be a deadstick with a plain or colored hook. jig the one rod, watch both. The bite shuts down at dark on LOW.

I'd buy your lures from the bait shop you stop at, or right at the resort you go to. Not really any more expensive and they usually can set you up with what has been working in the area you are fishing. But a simple gold jig is really all you need. I agree with gurkster on the deadstick. I seem to have better luck with the smaller jigs. Add a spiltshot to help get it down quicker in deep water. I've seen the glow in the dark stuff work really well and other times not so good. Get a little variety of colors and it is hard to go wrong.
