My wife and I are planning on a ice fishing trip to LOTW during the first week in Jan. We have done this in the past and have stayed at Ballards and Sportsmans resorts. Both places were very good to us and we had a good time. My wife is open to the idea of a "sleeper" trip and I am curious if anyone has suggestions on who might have the best sleepers...or are they pretty much all the same? I am also interested in hearing about other resorts that you might recommend. I wouldn't mind trying another resort, other than the two mentioned above, just to see what is out there. Thank you for your help.

Most of resorts have pretty good sleepers- I watch reports and try and figure out which resort is on the fish- more than which one is most comfortable!! I've always been happy with Zipple bay resort sleepers- comfortable and usually on the fish. Overall my personal favorite resort is Morris Point lakeview lodge- comfy cabins, great food and bar, an owner who knows the lake better than most, and fish houses that are on the fish most of the season. Good luck-

Thanks for the info. The reason I ask about the sleepers is due to my wife coming along. She can be rather picky about things and I want to make sure she has a good time...so we can do it again. I figured a sleeper is a sleeper but I thought perhaps there was something out there that caters more to the ladies view.

I will have to check out Morris Point Lakeview lodge..

Thanks again for the info.

Riverbend has newer sleepers and they are pretty nice. Looked inside of one last year that wasn't occuppied. I know a couple of folks that have used Riverbend and were very satisfied. They have a sponsor link at the top of the page. I agree a Happy wife makes for a good trip. wink

I have stayed at Riverbend for the past 9 years. We use the day houses as I really like the hot shower and someone serving food at the lodge. I've been very satisfied with their service and accomadations from that aspect. Good luck

Try Arnesen's. They are a little bit off the beaten path but a great place to stay. They move their sleepers each time somebody new comes in. Its nice becuase a spot won't get fished out too quickly. Most of the time, their sleepers are by Arnesen's reef or over by Twin Islands. Both places were incredible all summer.

Good luck.

I really like the Lake Road Lodge. Nice sleepers. The owners, Brian and Penny, are super nice people and bend over backwards to make sure people have a good time. They treat you like a friend that is staying with them.

When does Arneson's open for the season. Was up there fishing Sat thru Mon. Missed not popping up there for the morning coffee. Swung by there Sunday night to see who was around, but it was closed by 8:30. Had awesome fishing on Sunday & Monday. Saturday was busy with the saugers, but they were mainly all small (10-11 inches). Went thru about 4 doz shiners & frozen shiners. Kept us busy. Did manage to snag a 44" northern, with a 19" girth on Saturday by Morrison's.
Bapperpimp, was that you out there with the Warrior boat on Saturday?

The last time I talked to Ed he said this is the only time of the year they can break away to go south for a little before the Ice fishing starts, I think he's in Florida and the place is closed.....

I believe it's still open on weekend afternoons for supper cuz I think Gurney was still working there until he had his triple bypass on Friday.
He's doing better and got out of the hospital yesterday.

Fish-n-fool, it wasn't me. My last trip up there was in mid-October. I would bet the fish are still biting up there though...

Fish-n-fool, please give Gurn a big hug for me when you see him. I love that guy. Just tell him Bob wishes him good luck.

I just talked to Ed's wife Kay. I sure don't think they ever shut there doors, except when they have there awesome family Christmas Get together.. They would be a First Class place to take your Wife for a sleeper. This will be my Wife and I's 25th year this January... Man I can't wait for that time. If your up there the 3rd week in January just go to the lodge or ask the Guides where Rick and LouAnn are. We will have a cocktail with whoever wants to. See you on the Frozen Water Soon...

Well maybe I'll catch you up there this winter when we've got some frozen water. We always stay at our friends cabin when we go up. Plan on getting the permanent up there this year & store it at Bablers after the ice season is over.

Will give Gurny a hug for you when I see him again.

Thanks for all the info. We are going to give Arnesen's a try. My wife backed out of the sleeper idea...so we are just going to resort it. I will save the sleeper trip for my buddies. Thanks again.

You won't regret it. It gets dark about 5PM and the fish stop biting about them. sitting in a shack for 5 or 6 or 7 hours before sleep just playing cards or drinking or whatever could get old to me...but thats just my opinion.

Yeah, my wife just didn't want to spend so much time on the ice...and I agree..a hot shower, good food at the bar and meeting others would be more entertaining.........

You have made a Great Choice for you and your Wife. The Track machines they have for your ride out are the best and most modern on the Lake. The guides are very friendly and Professional and do know there Duties . Like I said earlier this will be My wife LouAnn's and Mine 25th year this Year. So take it from Us, we have been coming back every year for a reason. Rick from Rockford, Mn....

We'll be up by Arneson's again this weekend. Going to hit the Rainy river again. Hope to have nice(dry) weather. Had a great time and lots of good fishing a couple weeks ago when we were up there on the lake & river. Can't get myself to get those boats put away just yet.

My buddies and I did a sleeper at Arnesen's for 2 days last year. Good service, accomodations, and people. Fishing was pretty good too.

We debated going the lodge route this year, but decided that an extra day of fishing was worth the showers and meals. We have a 3 night 3 day reserved for Jan 3-5 and leave on Jan 6.

Now that I have my place reserved, I would highly encourage Arnesen's at Rocky Point. Also you are better off to call and reserve rather than do it over the internet. Good luck.

Henry
