Hey, it is technically fall, so it is ok for me to start ice fishing laugh

Our Winter vacation is going to be on Winnie this year. Two of us are coming up in January for some Ice Fishing and we are starting to plan and make reservations. I'm hoping I can get some advice from everyone on Ice Fishing Winnie.

Is it worth renting a sleeper?
Fishing good day and/or night?
Any particular side/area of the lake we should focus on?
Good Resorts? (or ones to avoid)
etc
etc

thanks!!!

Ryan

We would be happy to host your ice fishing adventure on Lake Winnie!! January is a great time of the season to come up for that early season perch bite!! perch are going to be a day bite only. Walleyes you will have an opportunity to catch those through out the day and during the overnight hours. Fatheads are the most common bait, good hearty minnow that works well for both the perch and walleyes. If you plan to throw some tip-ups you'll want to grab some sucker minnows to be effective. Bringing portables to stay mobile is a good strategy. perch move throughout the day and if you can move with them you will maximize your success. Guests that stay in our sleepers usually use the sleepers as "base camp" and then do some "hole HOPPING". We maintain a good plowed road system for convenient access. Feel free to check out our website at www.highbanks.com for more details or call 800-365-2560 with any questions.

How much do you charge for the ice road? In the past I've used the public access just south of you guys, but it's a pain in the butt to find the way back after dark.

Access is $10/day or if you are staying in a sleeper for the weekend, we do a weekend pass of $25 that covers 3 days. We provide you with a map of our roads and updates on ice conditions, fishing report and any pressure ridges to be aware of. We use a red beacon to help guests off the ice that we keep on 24/7. If you decide you need lodging and are a guest of ours, access is free. If you get a chance, swing in to the lodge and say Hi and I'd be happy to answer any questions!
