Bear, we'll be hunting our land and the Beltrami at the same time. What part of the forest do you hunt? We're near the winner silo.
I was up there last weekend and was a little dissapointed with the number of birds I saw. Might have been weather-related.
Go back to your shanties!

Funny, I too will be up in BISF this weekend. I'll be at my cabin from Friday to Sunday, and our land is just 5 miles West of the Hayes Lake access...
The birds are there, but they seem to be investing most of their time in un-proven spots. I have yet to see a bird in Beltrami in any of my usual hotspots. Our land is full of them though, so I'll spend most of my time there and in/around the state woods nearby...

Our land is just south of Williams. We hunt that and then around Faunce and south by the Rapid River. Also got spots on the Pitt Grade. We try to hunt as much as we can... Once we get our cabin and stand work done....

Got my first double on grouse. After parking the car, walking in the woods for about an hour, I made my way back to the dirt road about a 1/2 mile from the car. I walk the road all the way back and get within 20 yds. of the car, when two grouse get up on the right side edge (right where I originally walked into the woods mind you ). One flew diagonally to the right and the other crossed right in front of me across the road going to the left. Luckily standing on the wide dirt road, had open shots on both of them and was fortunate to down them both. Have a picture to post, but need directions again, as I haven't done it in awhile. G.Dahl

We picked up a few over MEA break. We put a couple hundred miles on the old GMC and overall I see spotty pockets of birds. I have been to 3 different geographical areas so far and blanked at most trails! When are these leaves going to come down? The good news is my son got his first two grouse over the weekend. Way to go buddy! Here's a couple pics. Ferny.

Ferny,
Pretty funny, a gal I work with here was telling me today how her son shot his first two grouse this weekend.....turns out she knows you and your son pretty good! Your son might know her as "Mom" HAHA! Wow, small world.

Never been able to limit out until this year. Went to the lake to hunt duck seen nothing in 5 mornings so each day we went grouse hunting. The first day we saw 20 worked 9 shot 5 Of those 5 she pointed 3 and flushed many back over the trail to me. In the 5 days I have never eaten so many and still brought home 2 for the wall and 4 for the table. Check out the monster gun used. The secret was finding a place were the road warriors hadn't pushed them away. Glad a few logging roads have piles of dirt ect blocking them and having Bitsy to work em for me.....
If I don't get my fill on life I aint gonna blame no one but me
