Movie took place in Wabasha, but most of it was filmed in/around Red Wing. I'm not sure which lake, but does it really matter when it comes down to it? Ice is Ice through a camera lense. If you are on Hwy 61 heading south, you can stop in Wabasha and have a drink at Slipperys. Not the movie bar, but the namesake is the same.

The best thing yet was they had no idea who planted the smell.

Here is another interesting fact from the internet.

"After filming this movie in Minnesota in freezing temperatures, Walter Matthau was hospitalized with double pneumonia."

I was on the fishhouse scene set at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve in Rockford. The windchills were around -40F with highs around -10F or so. Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon and Burgess Meredith were alot of fun to be around! It was a GREAT experience!
Bonus movie question for those who need to know....Whose MN law enforcement officer and squad made their brief debut in the "closing up the baitshop after the owner's passing" scene?

Would it be Center City?

Also, anyone else think a prequel should be made?

well yeah but a prequel would obviously be much younger guys anyways, right?

The answer is.....Hennepin Parks or now known as Three Rivers Park District.

yeah, but I don't think it would be as funny without them. would look like they are just trying to make a few extra bucks by capitalizing on an already great movie. I kinda thought the 2nd one seemed kind of like a sell out. weak storyline compared to the first.

Perms is one thing, those shacks were pretty basic. But they were driving on the ice in the trucks too.

I'd say it's been at least 1,000 years since lakes in MN were drivable by thanksgiving crazy

By the way, Kevin Spacey as younger old man gustafson wink
