Been kind of quiet around here lately. I'm heading out to Island tomorrow. Turn over should be complete and you never know when the last time out for this year will be.

I keep saying Im going to get out but then we get days like today and they say the next 8 days will be more of the same. crazy
I need to get out at least 1 more time to run some ring free through the yammy and top it off with premium and stabil.
Mark let me know how ya do and if you find the crappies at all. I have a feeling I can get into them if I can ever get out.

Steve, Richard and I got into several 14s and 15s last week but the lake was still turning. Surface temp was about 46. The big crappies were swimming right along with the walleyes. I had them pretty well dialed in although it was a slow bite, it was steady. Get a hold of me if you're thinking of heading out there.

I would've killed to be out on island today(if the wind wasn't bad). The best fall fishing i've ever had was in the crappiest weather i've endured...at least for the walleyes. Crappies and walleyes mixed is a rare find out there, at least at the same depths at this time of year. I have a feeling i'll make it up one more time. I'm thinking next weekend. If anyone wants to go let me know otherwise i'll have the lake to myself i'm sure...let me know about the dock/crapper gunflint!

Good things come to those who bait!

The dock was still in at Abbot but the crapper was gone. So was the bite. Looks like the weather may hold for another week yet.

anybody been out on the st louis river at all lately? i'm curious as to how that is doing right now.

chances are, i'm going to make it up there next weekend or the weekend after, and i will definitely hit both island lake once and the river once too [if its worth it]

ive been fishing pool 2 a ton since i'm down in saint paul for school, so my river skills are getting better... watch out!

Thats why you have to learn to ice fish man.
Miller the only people I have seen on the river lately have been muskie and crappie guys and not many at all. When its cold and raining like this Ill just stay home and be warm. Comes a point in the year where no fish is worth being miserable.

are there many eyes to be had on the river this time of year? what part of the river would have the best chance of holding some? or i assume most of my old summer spots would still have a chance to hold an eye... i would think maybe jigging with some minnows or trolling some bottom bouncers would have to produce right now... any input?

I love jigging and rigging big minnows on deep bends and quick dropping channel edges. Right now I would be hitting the deep stuff by Spirit Lake, The Marina and upp above and below the Oliver bridge. Its not going to be fast but the fish are usually agressive and have the feed bags on.

I'm making it up "one more time" tomorrow-sunday...I'm thinking about fishing friday afternoon/evening and saturday morning. Anyone been out much? Any reports on depth/fall locations? I was going to try my usual spots (west basin), but I think that i'll spend friday evening trolling boards and cranks on the break from 5-10 fow. I can't decide weather it'd be worth the time and effort, but I would like to troll cranks one last time this year and two weeks ago the fish were on the break moving into shallow rocky areas...

Bring your warm clothes and rain gear. Looks like rain/snow all through the weekend and into next week.
We hit lake Superior and the River yesterday and didnt catch any walleyes trolling sticks/cranks. We did fireline and leadcore and neither worked.
Graphed a TON of fish on the big lake but nothing would bite. Im guessing they were shallow lakers because we saw a couple surface and 1 surfaced like 2' from the boat.
Muddy water in spots on both the lake and river.

I was out last Tuesday but I don't think I was fishing deep enough. One northern for 3 hours. Lots of chewed up minnows. This weekend appears to be fading but they're forecasting temps in the mid 40s for late next week so the boat will be out for another week or two.

Yup Im hoping to get up there at least 1 more time this fall. I have to run the ring free for a trip and then top the Lnd off with some premium and marine stabil again.
Mark give me a holler if you need company.
As long as these kidney stones I got last week behave Ill be getting out more now.

Steve, Sorry to hear about the stones. I've never had them but I understand that they can be very painful. I'm hoping for a week from Saturday or Sunday. Lite pikes are getting a little scarce but Chalstrom's had them earlier this week. I'll keep an eye on the weather and keep in touch.

Made it out on island last friday evening. Weather was crazy and I stayed in protected areas close to the house. Usually decent fall areas though and only picked up one dink eye and a dink pike also. Fished from 3 untill dark which was 6ish.

Good things come to those who bait!

Northlander do you deer hunt? If not, this might be your last weekend to get the boat out on Island. The weather looks unbelievable(knock on wood) for a day of fall fishing. Gunflint or anyone else getting out for the last time?

I'll be out Saturday unless the wind kicks up over 20. I may try to get out for a few hours Friday afternoon depending on the weather.
