Jiffy Ice Auger Fuel Mix Question

Hi - My grandpa has an old Jiffy ice auger with a white powerhead. We are estimating it is 25-30 years old. I am unsure what oil/fuel mix ratio to use in it. I know the current augers use 40:1. I asked Jiffy Customer Support and they said regardless of age all Jiffy's have always used 40:1. Our family also has about an 8 year old yellow powerhead Jiffy and the gas cap says 24:1, so I question the advice I received from Jiffy Customer Service. Does anyone in the ice fishing community own and still use an old Jiffy that can help me out?

I have a Jiffy Model 30 white powerhead. Label on fuel tank says 24:1. Still runs like a top.

24:1 would be my bet. That what my old Jiffy ran at anyways.
I did have a Legend I believe that ran at 40:1.

Even the 20 - 25 year old Jiffy 3HP is the same 3HP Tecumsah (bad spelling) sold like 3 years ago... Or even last year. I have a 4 year old 3HP STX and this is basically the same engine. The auger has the 24:1 and then the user manual had the 40:1. Some conflicting info.

If you don't want to worry about this... Get a little bottle of the Jiffy oil at Mill$ Fle-et Farm that you are to mix with a Gal. of gas... run that. I have every year.

I'm thinking of trying the Amsoil this year.

Mine is at least 25 years old, white head, and it says 24:1.

Tecumseh engines were originally 24:1 for the oil mixture.

A few years ago Tecumseh approved a oil mixture of 40:1 for all new and older engines.

You will have no issues with the 40:1, it will only run better; less smoke.

I switched to 100:1 Amsoil Sabre last year. What a difference. I am a believer in this Amsoil stuff.

just burn the amsoil at 80:1 or 100:1 and you wont have to worry about it

I went to 80:1 (just for ease of using the packets) Amsoil in my Model 30 last year, and I think it ran better and started better.

I wish I could find a way to lighten it up wink At least I have sleds last/this year smile
