You will want to find mid lake reefs and island points that have rock/rubble/silt/muck transitions. Live bait rig or jig minnows or leeches and crawlers.

what do you mean by reefs but i know what youre saying about the islands. If youre by and island and youre fishing for walleye, and youre right off of the shore shouldnt it be like 25 ft and then theres a bigger chance for walleye?

Nate, You gonna be up through the weekend? And yeah, that figures about the bite -- this will be our first fishing weekend up there on open water. Geez, where did the spring go?

Yes, we will be up there till Sunday. Heading to Basswood on Friday, but other than that we will be fishing the chain. I made it up the weekend after opener, but haven't been up since.
I guess we will just have to work a little harder.
What day are you heading up?

do you mean by structures on the bottom of the lake like rocks or weeds? By reefs he means the spots you find with your depth finder out away from visible points and islands. They'll be mostly rock or gravel up there but some might have weeds on them. You'll be in that 60 feet of water out in the middle of nowhere then suddenly your depth finder will tell you you're 20 or 30 feet or something like that. The whole shallower area will be surrounded by deeper water. If you can track that shallower spot to an island or shore, then you are on a underwater point. Hope that helps.

I am sure it will be nice to relax!!
Hopefully by the time you get up there I will have found the fish and have some tips for you!
I wish we were leaving today already but we needed a day to get stuff done around the house and it is a high of 52 tommorrow with showers so at least I won't be missing a nice day tomorrow (we won't get up there till around 8pm).

I was thinking another breakfast and lunch should be planned then. Nature, Unless you know the lake and the fish - bring your food. Likely you'll catch fish for dinner but what the heck. Besides, maybe you wind up being out there longer than planned. I'd offer fishing advice but have never been to Sag. Good luck. Please let us know how it goes out there.

We were just in the Boundary Waters on some very productive lakes with 5 experienced fishermen and were barely able to scrape together one good fish meal. Sometimes the fish just don't bite. I would always recommend you plan on your meals based on catching 0 fish. You can go a couple days hungry I guess but why?
There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an [PoorWordUsage].

Looks like we're going to be staying a week on Fenske Lake mid July. Anyone got any info/tips. Looks like a smally/Pike/panfish lake. Also any info on Little Sletton and Everett?
Thanks

You and your hawgs Mr. H. Sweet catch! We plied the shallows for pike on White Iron for a few hours here and there over the weekend. We had some ideas to check out and new water to look at. Blech! lots of little slimers and a few smallies. A couple of the smallies were pretty decent and came out of the shallow weeds. One on a big spinner bait and the other on a Yozuri slash bait. But the biggest catch was about a 170 pounder. On an X-Rap. A strike, a pull, a missed hook set and a flying lure firmly stuck to the inside of my knee. One piece of advice on the line trick to get hooks out of yourself or your buddy. COMMIT to the yank! It does nobody any good to test the direction! Its really not too bad when done correctly.
