Their will be a race going at one point grin

Ever want to drill a hole with one hand, get a Nils! I had the privilege to watch Paul W do this one handed drill last year on ML grin Hole after hole!

There are many memebrs and non members who own a Nils auger.

The auger is made in Finland I believe.

You may believe the grass is greener on the other side. If you take the time to water yours, it would be just as green.

I have an 8 inch one without the motor and can drill a hole by hand threw two feet of ice in about 20 seconds.

I'm not staff here but own a Nils. I bought it off the wall at my local baitshop here in Iowa. Theres nothing out there that comes close to this ice eating machine. I haven't raced anyone yet but may challenge a mod on here to a race with his Jiffy later this winter grin

20 seconds maybe an exaggeration, but I can drill my first hole faster then my friend can with his power auger.

They're made by the original Fins across the big pond. And although I'm a Mod here, I've had one since the pre-powerhead days. At that time I figured if you did add a powerhead to the Nils, there would be no competition, and from the reviews over the last few years from the guys using the powerauger, I guess I was right. wink

My Lazermag works just fine, but with the amount of walking out to spots that I've done with this winters ice/snow conditions, I've even left the powerauger behind. If I'm augering a limited amount of holes, it's a no brainer, the Nils hand auger comes with even if there's 18" of ice. If I'm making swiss cheese of the ice or dealing with 2' plus, of course the Lazermag makes the trip.

It's fun to watch the smiles appear on the faces of new Nils users be it hand or power. laugh

If you want an opinion from a non mod here, I can get you plenty of names and people to talk to if you are really interested. I myself do not own one, but will own one within the next year. Just made other purchases this year but by next years ice, I will be cutting with one. They really cut. And you don't need to add on an extension. If you want to use it as a hand auger, it comes with a handle to do so, and it is way lighter than my other augers. Plus I have seen them cut and have cut with one that was owned by a friend who bought one. That was all it took for me to be convinced. It is kinda like shopping for a new dog, if you want one real bad, bring your wife to see the puppies at the breeder, you end up taking one home! hehehehehe, not sure if my wife wants one of these, but that was the effect I got by using one. Once I actually used it, dang it, I had to have it!

Watch very, very close.... Because I'm as fast as the speed of dark.

We have more fun! Thanks to these great people!

The hand auger can be seen at Cabelas but if you want a motor on it other then the Outdoor Pro Store the only place I have seen them advertised is Red Rock. I have owned mine for a year and will never go back to the heavy Jiffy that I once owned. Light, fast and dependable. You should do a search on the Tanaka motor and see what the other type of things that this motor is the powerhead for and you will understand why it works so good for a ice auger.

Well I know I sold many Nils augers to folks at the Ice Show in St. Paul the past 3 years. None were staff rather members of this site who heard the good reviews here.

Anyone thats fishing the Iowa Great Lakes area are more than welcome to punch a few holes with mine if they are on the fence. I timed mine Sunday, 18" of ice 5 holes, well under 45 seconds.

Have had mine for three years. It not only cuts fast it starts fast. One pull to prime it second pull to to start it everytime.
Also a lot lighter so dragging it around and drilling 20 holes doesn't wear you out or take a lot of time. I ran a Strikemaster for years. Won't go back.

I haven't used a Nils or seen one in action. How do they work for reopening holes in a hard-sided fish house. I loves my lazer put it struggles (and bounces) when trying to re-open an existing hole.

Do they not have a primer? I have never seen one but have heard nothing but good things. When/if my eskimo bites the dust I will be looking into the nills.

Mine has the primer but never use it. I haven't tried reopening holes yet not sure how well it works for that. I had mine in the house Sat night to thaw out, 1 pull when I hit the ice Sunday morn and she was purring.

I have seen the hand augers at cabelas. That is the only major store I have ever seen carry them. Otherwise its been small local or online shops like OutdoorProStore.com.

Looks like every one has quick starts with their nils. Why is it with mine I set it down for more than 20 minutes I have to choke mine to get it started and takes more than three pulls.
