SLOW!! Fished yesterday and it was a tough go of it. Probably caught 6 walleyes with 3 guys, keeping 1. 4 boats out there in our group and one got skunked and the other 2 boats caught a few more than we did.

One boat was up near the dam. We caught fish close to Crow Creek. They bit for about and hour when the wind was giving us a pretty good chop. Then the wind quit and so did the bites.

Anything going on yet for the spring of 2008 season? Which landing are open? The family is headed out for Easter to spend 3 days on the water. Just looking for a few bits of info. Fort Thompsen most likely will be the best bite I'm assuming.
Thanks

Read the ice out report below this thread. I've been out as have a few others. When I was out last week, only the ramp by the dam was open. That may have changed.

rugged trip for us this weekend.

Fished from town to the dam on Friday, kept 3 fish,

Fished from Kiowa to the White river on Saturday, not a bite from 9 till 3, then found a cooperative pod of males.

Kept a limit of 15 inchers. Weather was NASTY!

Probably 10 rigs at American Creek Marina on Good Friday, 2 in the campground, none at the dam, that I could see.

Less than 20 rigs in the marina on Saturday.... A testament to the fishing conditions, me thinks.

I dont know what fishing4fun found. but it was a tough go for us.

There appeared to be the standard fish at north kiowa, south crow in the crossover area, but they have been there most of the year. 28 ft, if you want to fish em.

Hate to see her go.. but love to watch her leave!

Our boat did fair so well, we found some fish on Friday, I think we took 6 fish home out of the 15 we caught. Hard to find anything that wasn't 14.5". Saturday was terrible we fished for a total of maybe 3 hours. Then back to Cedar Shores to entertain the kids at the pool. Overall it wasn't a good fishing weekend. That makes for more time with the wife and kids. So next trip we'll get more free time. Isn't that how it's suppose to work.

Heard scattered reports so far. Seems to be hit and miss throughout the day, and even throughout the week.

reddog,

Where did you find that active pod of males? Were they moving up into the spawning areas yet? We are going this weekend and are hoping the fish are starting to move up shallow for the spawn. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Water temp was 42 in town yesterday,

fish were staging in 15 16 fow off the spawning areas.(rip rap/ close to shore )

Males were not milking last weekend, I dont know about now.

There have been shallow fish all year, its just that few look for them, and opt for the river channels instead.

The biggest detriment to the fishing, IMHO, is the inconsitencies of the hydro electric generation out of Big Bend.

You used to be able to bank on it running most of the day, Monday-Friday, but it has been very inconsistent this year. It may run from 6:30-9am, and shut down for the rest of the day.

When Francis Case isnt moving water, its a tough gig to figure prespawn. Post spawn, when they need to feed, and are more active, its not such a big deal.

I'm Sharpe bound, next trip.

These reports are the first I've heard that weren't so great. Most guys I've talked to have been doing quite well, both from shore and by boat. I'm hoping to get there this weekend. We'll have to wait and see how the weather looks. I'm not a big fan of fishing alone in high winds. I don't mind the cold though.

Shore fishing has been quite good lately.

Thr rip rap on the Oacoma bridge gets some pressure.

The rip rap below the school above Chamberlain is a popular spot.

The peninsula that forms cedar shores resort is a good spot,

If you want secluded, drive way back into Brule Bottoms North Of Chamberlain. I dont know if you can drive down the hill to get to the river ar not, with the weather thay just had.

Anywhere up at the dam will produce some fish from shore.

basically, if you can access the shorline decent, its going to see some pressure.

sounds like a plan. don't know if you need to go that far to find fish. most that i saw were either at cc or right at the dam.

fishing was good this spring, but havenet heard much lately. they are normally catching fish somewhere between Chamberlain and the dam this time of year, as well as south of town. know guys who have fished below the dam this time of year and done ok. i would talk to Allens Hillside...they have a guide service and will tell you where their guides are catching fish.

Yea, Dakota Iceman and I fished the tourney here in Chamb last weekend and finally caught some fish. We caught 6 and had 2 keepers. Placed 6th (they paid to 5th). The morning bite was on. Sounds like some weather coming in for the weekend but the temps should be nice. Good luck! Foster
